Deals for Members of the Military

Memorial Day has become a three day weekend that a lot of people associate with shopping and sales. The federal holiday was originally created as a day of remembrance for those who died while serving their country. Perhaps the “middle ground” between these two concepts would be represented in these deals for members of the military. Home Depot offers a 10% discount for Veterans. They also offer a 10% discount all year round for Active Duty and immediate family members of people who are in the military. The Home Depot Foundation helps address the housing needs of veterans. Dryer Envy: How to Tell If You Need a New Dryer

Every time we are at the local Lowes or Home Improvement, which tends to be more often than not, since we own an older home, we always pass by the appliances department. I have to hide my eyes from the sparkling brilliance of the new washer and dryers that come in so many fashionable colors. In fact the exact reds and blues of the pairs remind me of browsing the new car dealerships. Think of all of the options that you can get on a dryer, including one that talks to the washer to find out how it should set … Continue reading

Budget Friendly Home Stores

In this economy shopping for your home should be approached with caution. It is easy to spend quite a bit when you purchase things for you home. Aside from a buy nothing policy which isn’t very practical, especially when the roof leaks or your kitchen chair breaks, what can you do? I’ve found that even in a tough economy, there are stores out there that are very budget friendly. They will help you out without breaking a budget. I’m not getting paid by any of these stores for recommending them (It would be nice if I were), so this is … Continue reading

Exotic Flowers At Home Depot—Who Knew?

Perhaps, it is the region of the country I live in, or maybe it’s the fact that I don’t take on a ton of home improvement projects on my own. Whatever the case may be, I learned an interesting fact this weekend: Home Depot sells exotic flowers. I discovered this, not during a recent visit to the home improvement giant, but because my mother received a beautiful and rare tropical gardenia-like plant from my brother for Grandparent’s Day. Its actual name is: Na’u (Gardenia brighamii). I was shocked to hear that he purchased it from a Home Depot in Hawaii … Continue reading

Home Improvement: Bloopers

No, I’m not talking about the sitcom named Home Improvement, I’m talking about my very own bloopers. Of course, there are other priceless moments I’ve witnessed during other people’s home improvement projects, but I’ll share one of mine. I consider myself to be rather handy around the house. I mean, I’m definitely not afraid of power tools; in fact, I like them. My husband thinks I’m pretty cool because I like going to Home Depot as much as he does. So, I was trying to figure out a quick fix for one of our doors, which wasn’t closing properly. I … Continue reading

Do It Yourself

Finding creative and inexpensive ways to decorate your home is a lot of fun. Not only will it help you save money, but it is also a great way to create a unique look and feel in your home. Designer labels are nice, but too many people collect the same trendy items. When you make your own furnishings and accessories, your look is one of a kind. You also get the personal satisfaction of being able to say, “I made that,” when a friend or family member inquires about one of your unique pieces. Handmade items also lend a sense … Continue reading

Self described as the “World’s largest home improvement retailer, operating more than 1500 stores across North America,” Home Depot is one of my favorite home centers. Not only do they have stores all over, they also have nearly everything you need for do-it-yourself projects. Home Depot has a website, with over 30,000 items you can shop for from the comfort of your home. Visit Home Depot online, and check the top right-hand corner of the site for the store finder, type in your zip code, and locate the store closest to you. You can order things from the online store, … Continue reading
