New Disney World Attraction: The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow

The cycle is complete: “Pirates of the Caribbean” was a movie based on a classic Disney World ride.  Now there’s a new Disney World attraction based on the movie that was based on the ride.  The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow is a new immersive walk-through at Disney World that opened on December 6.  The Disney Parks released a behind-the-scenes video with the Imagineers detailing the attraction, and the famous talent that helped bring it to life. The centerpiece of the attraction is the virtual image projected onto the deck of a pirate’s ship: that of Captain Jack Sparrow.  But … Continue reading

Johnny Depp Supports Release of West Memphis Three

I’ve blogged before about the West Memphis Three. This is the name given to those found guilty of a terrible crime that sticks out in my mind because it happened just across the Mississippi River from my native Memphis. In 1993, three young boys were brutally murdered in West Memphis, Ark. In 1994, three teenagers – Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley – were convicted of the murders. Baldwin and Misskelley received life sentences while Echols was sentenced to die. Since those convictions, there has been nothing but controversy about this case. Some say that it was a witch … Continue reading

Look Who’s Returning to the Big Screen

Yee-haw! George Clooney is heading to the Wild West. According to reports, the hunky actor has reportedly signed on to star in “The Lone Ranger.” Britain’s The Sun is reporting that the Oscar winner will join Johnny Depp in the big screen adaptation of the long-running 1950s TV show. A source close to the project says Clooney has wanted to share screen time with Depp for a while now and thinks they’ll make the perfect on-screen partners. Personally, I don’t see how Depp is going to find time to see his family with the insane schedule he is about to … Continue reading

Johnny Depp Gives Away His Fedora

I have always loved Johnny Depp, every since he appeared in “21 Jumpstreet.” But, his reputation has not always been the best. Johnny has always been known for his choice in accepting quirky roles others would refuse. I mean can you see Leonardo DiCaprio as Edward Scissorhands? This need to go his own way with roles has led much of Hollywood to think he is a bit odd. During the early 90s, he had a few run-ins with the law. He was arrested in 1994 for damaging a $1,200 a night room at the Mark Hotel in New York City. … Continue reading

Iconic Sex Symbols – Part 3

This is my final installment of iconic sex symbols. I’ve already covered many of the obvious – Mel Gibson, Elvis, Warren Beatty, Marlon Brando, and Paul Newman. Here are a few more on my list: James Dean You know, when I was younger, I had a really hard time seeing Dean as sexy. However, as I age, I begin to get it. He is an iconic sex symbol truly frozen in time, as he died at the young age of 24, while still young and handsome. Would he have aged well? We will never know, but the whole package of … Continue reading

Hollywood Stars Giving Their All to Give to Those in Need

Justin Timberlake the singer/actor/fashion designer/restaurant owner is adding a new line to his resume—philanthropist. The 27-year-old former Mouseketeer is making headlines for digging deep and giving big to aid two organizations close to his heart. Last week, the Memphis native donated $100,000 each to the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum and the Memphis Music Foundation in an effort to support music education. Timberlake dropped off the checks during a break from filming his new movie “The Open Road,” which is being shot not far from his boyhood Tennessee town. Executives with the organizations say they will use Timberlake’s contributions to … Continue reading

Hannah Montana Concert Ticket Story with a Happy Ending and Johnny Depp Braces For Wisconsin Chill

Finally, a story involving Hannah Montana concert tickets that has a HAPPY ending. In the wake of the recent Hannah Montana concert ticket brouhaha in which a Texas mother helped her daughter write an essay filled with lies (it essentially recounted a sob story of how the girl’s father died in war-torn Iraq, only the dad is alive and well and knew little of the ruse) it’s nice to see that there are still some people in this world who live honorably. One such person lives not too far away from me in a suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His name … Continue reading

P is for Pirate!

Yesterday was apparently International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Unfortunately I didn’t run around saying argh and avast ye matey or whatever else it is that pirates are infamous for saying. My favorite pirate, Captain Hook, was more likely to respond to a Tick Tock than he was to ahoy matey! Disney announced yesterday that they were planning the DVD release for the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest for December 5th just in time for Christmas. This film has been breaking records since it’s release including the highest theatrical opening weekend in U.S. box office history and becoming … Continue reading

My Top Ten Johnny Depp Movies

Many people act as if Johnny Depp has just arrived in Hollywood. The success of the two Pirates of the Caribbean movies have totaled almost $700 million dollars so far, making Johnny one of the hottest commodities in Hollywood (especially since Mel Gibson seems to have left a huge opening). But, I have always loved Johnny and have been a big fan of his movies, even the less popular ones. So here is a list of my favorite Johnny Depp movies (sans the Pirate movies of course): 10. Arizona Dream Watching this movie will make you feel like you are … Continue reading

Finding Neverland: The Story Behind Peter Pan

It’s a rare instance when we get a look into the stories we loved during our childhood. Finding Neverland, albeit with some fictional revisions, provides us with a look into a childhood classic: Peter Pan. The story of J.M. Barrie, the author of the beloved classic, Peter Pan and Wendy, Finding Neverland is a beautiful, amazing piece of film that will no doubt move and amaze you. Johnny Depp stars as Barrie, bringing a tenderness to the role that some might find unexpected. When Barrie meets the widowed Sylvia Davies (Kate Winslet) and her four sons, he almost instantly becomes … Continue reading
