How to Find Free Movie Screenings

Would you like to take in a brand new movie for free, one that hasn’t even come out yet? Get on the list! Movie companies like to have select audiences preview a movie before it is released to the general public. This helps them figure out things about the movie, such as how to market it, which music to use as a theme, even whether or not they should change the ending. The feedback that they get is invaluable, even when most of the time, the movie a preview audience sees is exactly the same one that gets released weeks … Continue reading

Postal Increase: Stock Up on Stamps

Sending snail mail is one of the most frugal things you can do, because you really get a lot of service for a little stamp. Imagine, you can send a letter anywhere within the United States for only 41 cents. You can’t even buy a candy bar for that amount without some serious couponing. And, it doesn’t take that much more to send a letter overseas. But, as you may or may not know, the postage rates are going up here in America, starting on May 12th. The first class stamp will rise from 41 cents to 42 cents. Media … Continue reading

Getting Bestsellers for Free

I love browsing through the bookstore. There is just so much there. Before my frugal living days, it wouldn’t be odd for me to walk into a bookstore and emerge an hour later will a pile of books and $300 less in my account. Did I mention that I love books? Of course now I employ other strategies to feed my book habit, such as trading with friends, going to book sales, hitting the library and using paperbackswap.com. But one thing I miss about those spending sprees is discovering new books and pouring through the glossy bestsellers. The bookstore always … Continue reading

You can have a special box of books that friends can browse through when they visit, or simply e-mail them with the titles. Since books are inexpensive to mail by media rate, consider sending some to long distance friends as well. If you don’t have many friends with the same taste … Continue reading

So how did we do this past weekend? See for yourself. We spent the week really buckling down. In anticipation of having to make a long drive in and out of New York City on Saturday, we saved our gas by not doing any errands or trips during the week, with … Continue reading

I think I am finally coming around to the idea of using Paper Back Swap. At first, I didn’t think it was a very frugal choice. Of course, you don’t get to keep the library books, whereas with Paper Back Swap you can add favorite books to your personal shelves permanently. Oh, in case you aren’t familiar with Paper Back Swap, the way it works is pretty simple. You join and upload nine or … Continue reading

Free Books from the Paperback Book Swap

Even though I’m a bibliophile and love to browse bookstores, it’s difficult for me to part with my hard-earned money to purchase them new. Of course, there are exceptions such as needed textbooks, but I’m an eternal bargain hunter. So the Paperback Book Swap was a natural fit for me!
