Make Your Own Photo Puppets

Ever since my 3-year-old daughter saw “Curious George Goes to the Hospital” on video she has been on a puppet kick. (In one scene George puts on a puppet show for the sick children at the hospital and my daughter falls down laughing each time she sees George with puppets on his hands and feet.) The first time she watched the tape I made her a set of sock puppets so she could put on a show “just like George.” But, recently I found an even better way to create hand puppets that feature your favorite photos. They are more … Continue reading

Peter Cottontail is prepping to hop down the Bunny Trail while youngsters are readying to hit the beach for the big spring break holiday… is your camera ready? If you are looking for ways to spice up your family photos (at the beach or at home during Easter gatherings) then you’ve come to the right place. This week I provided tips on how to snap frameworthy group shots (even when you are shooting camera shy individuals). And in keeping with all things Easter I even threw in a few wonderful photo projects that are sure to be a welcome addition … Continue reading

Making Photo Easter Eggs

I recently returned from Hawaii where my beloved grandmother has been placed in a life care center following a severe stroke. While there I learned from her therapists the important role photos play in a stroke victim’s life. Pictures of family members, pets, and everyday objects are used in various therapy sessions including speech and cognitive restoration. I am a snap happy parent to begin with, but the therapist’s information inspired me to take even more pictures than usual. (At last count I snapped and printed more than 700 images while in Hawaii.) Currently, my grandmother’s room is filled with … Continue reading

Photo Cards for Easter and Mother’s Day

I’m all about using photos as part of homemade greeting cards and with Easter and Mother’s Day fast approaching I thought it would be a good idea to discuss ways you can create your own greeting cards with your favorite pictures. Most readers know that my young daughter is the subject of 95% of my photographs (her grandparents who live 5,000 miles away appreciate this immensely), which is why I decided to turn my attention to another photo subject—a more generic item that all readers could use to decorate their cards—flowers. Beautiful blossoms are great to use on personalized Mother’s … Continue reading

How to Make Christmas Decorations Using Your Favorite Photos

With less than 50 days until Christmas surely you must have your home decorated for the season. Yeah, right. I am nowhere near the decorating phase. In fact, I’m still in the designing phase, but I know time is not on my side. If you are scrambling to find unique homemade gifts to give to family and friends, consider completing the two projects I am working on. They are simple to make and quite affordable. But, the best part is that they feature personal photographs of the special people in your life. I find that that these projects are a … Continue reading

Fancy Photo Flowers

In a previous blog I provided directions on how to create a picture bouquet using leftover headshots of your children or pets. The photo flower project is simple, affordable and the end result is sure to be appreciated by person who receives it. If you liked the way the first bouquet turned out then you’ll definitely want to try this next project. It’s a bit more labor intensive, but you don’t have to be in the same league as Martha Stewart to complete it. Instead of flowers made out of construction paper, this bouquet uses paper cupcake liners. The following … Continue reading

Fun Photo Projects—Thank You Cards

In a previous blog I shared a story about a recent birthday party my daughter attended. Besides the remote control car incident the party yielded many other surprises, including one worthy of this blog. My professional videographer friend hosted the party and he and his wife came up with a fabulous idea that incorporated photography into the party favors. They created a backdrop—–in this case it was a massive painting of a country scene featuring Thomas the Tank in the distance (the party was for his 4-year-old son and had a Thomas theme)—and had each child stand in front of … Continue reading
