Capture the Holiday Magic

It took nearly six years for me to capture a photo of my daughter with Santa. I can’t remember a time when my daughter wasn’t deathly afraid of the holly, jolly, chubby guy.  She’s not a fan of skinny men with facial hair either, but I digress. My daughter’s exceptional fear of Mr. Claus made it impossible for me to snap a picture of the two of them together, so when it finally happened, I crafted a double page scrapbook layout commemorating the event. Two pages for a single trip to see a mall Santa may seem like overkill to … Continue reading

Back to School Poems for Your Scrapbook Layouts

Back to school brings loads of layouts, and dozens of opportunities to capture those memories. Need some fun poems that are perfect for back to school pages? Look no further. Often I write my own poems for school pages. Sometimes they rhyme and sometimes they don’t. Here is a collection of poems I have in my back to school file collected from various sources. The First Day by Nicole Humphrey Climbing up the steps so huge, she holds onto the rail, I send her out in the great big world and pray she doesn’t fail. Down the street, the big … Continue reading

More Adorable Christmas Poetry for Scrapbook Layouts

Hopefully you are taking my advice, and scrapbooking through the holiday season. You might be getting caught up scrapping pictures from the year, or perhaps from Christmas’ past. Christmas time is especially wonderful when it’s seen through a child’s eyes. So even if you do not have children, perhaps you have a niece or nephew or grandchild you can scrapbook about. If you don’t have any of that, borrow a child. No I’m kidding. But the magic of Christmas can usually be found on a child’s face during the holiday season. Seeing the twinkle in their eyes, the sweet smile, … Continue reading

Christmas Poems for Scrapbook Layouts

Poetry is one of my favorite “embellishments” to include on my layouts. I try to find something that coordinates with the theme, or the feel of the pictures. At holiday time it’s no different. If it isn’t poems, it’s quotes. Because I enjoy doing this, I have amassed quite a collection of poems that would work on your Christmas layouts. I thought I would share a few that you might be able to use on your scrapbook pages this holiday season. Even if you don’t have children to scrapbook about, these can be used in other ways. Just print them … Continue reading

Need to Scrapbook Halloween? Ideas and Poems For That Spooky Night

To put me in the mood to actually go back and scrapbook our Halloween, I have been spending some time going through un-scrapped photographs of all of the previous Halloween’s. The photographs make me smile as I see my children in various costumes. Or sitting amongst pumpkins in the middle of the pumpkin patch. It is so cool to see how much they have changed and grown over the years. Halloween has never been one of my favorite holiday’s even though the season carries my favorite – that of Autumn. While the leaves are changing and the air is crisper, … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Your Autumn Photographs

I probably enjoy scrapbooking the autumn season far more than I love scrapbooking any other time of year. With the snow and ice all around me, I actually miss the natural colors of fall. The greens and browns, the oranges and reds. They are beautiful to look at, and I absolutely love incorporating them into my layouts. It’s not only challenging but it’s fun and takes me back to those crisp autumn days before the white blanket covered my world. Our leaves in Missouri changed early this year, so I was able to snap many pictures for several weeks of … Continue reading

Saying No To a Sibling Placement

Last month I wrote a blog entitled “The Call for a Sibling” where I touched on how likely it was there would be additional children born to our sons’ birth mothers. I’m going to further elaborate here on the pain of saying “no”. I wrote the following October 13, 2005 while I was awake in grief and in prayer: Who’s Child Are You? Who’s child are you sent from above? Many homes waiting to offer you love. Forming in chaos I hear your soul cry, “Pray for my life, my mom’s getting high.” Longing hearts waiting to wipe away tears; … Continue reading

Adoptee’s Poetry: Two Personal Poems

Keeping in the whole sharing mood this week, I thought I’d share two more pieces I wrote. One was when I was eighteen years old and the other when I was twenty one. I sincerely hope you enjoy. And please, forgive the “rough around the edges” sound to the pieces. They have since been cleaned up a bit, but these are the originals, in their completely original format. The first one… “In the Past” – by Nicole Humphrey Not so long ago, but yet almost too long, I was given away. By the person who gave me life. Two loving … Continue reading

Adoptee’s Poetry – Looking Through The Glass

I thought I’d share another piece of poetry today. It’s been really awesome reliving some of the memories, and the feelings that were associated with my search and subsequent reunion. Obviously there is so much more to my story, that will come out over the next several months. I really hope that some of these pieces will give other adoptee’s a sense of peace. A glimmer of hope, that knowledge that somebody else has been there, and completely knows how you feel. “Looking through the glass” – Nicole Humphrey I’m looking for the key to a burning fear inside. I … Continue reading
