Tea Tree Oil: Worth The Risks?

I’ll admit it. I jumped on the tea tree oil bandwagon, and I don’t want to get off. Tea tree oil is said to have numerous uses and health benefits. From relieving the itch of insect bites and speeding up the healing process of cuts and bruises, to clearing up acne and curing athlete’s foot, it seems there is nothing tea tree oil can’t do. I didn’t start using tea tree oil until I came across recipes for homemade baby wipe solutions that called for a couple drops of the oil. My baby has always had sensitive skin that is … Continue reading

Diaper Rash Control: Homemade Spray

I’ve written before about my daughter’s diaper rashes. Her skin is sensitive, and she breaks out very easily, depending on the type of diapers and wipes we use. This rash isn’t simply a little redness or some bumps. It’s a full-blown, red, inflamed, scabby, awful rash. We had a system that was working well for us. We had her diaper rash under control. That all changed when she started teething. I’m not sure why teething affects diaper rashes, but I know that it caused hers to return. I again found myself trying and testing new methods to see what would … Continue reading

Four Tips for Enhanced Cleaning

1. We do need to flip our mattresses from time to time but there’s no sense in struggling with a heavy mattress to clean your bed skirt or dust ruffle if you don’t have to. Look for styles that have elastic around the edges instead of those that cover the box spring and get covered up by the mattress. You can slip it off easily without heavy lifting, wash, dry, press if necessary, and put it back in place without breaking a sweat. If you can’t find a bed skirt that you like in that style, make one or add … Continue reading

Treating Whiteheads Naturally

Don’t get me wrong — I’m not opposed to medicine in situations where medicine is required. But in looking at my current whitehead expansion, from upper arms to forearms, I don’t think I need to take drastic medical measures. There are plenty of natural remedies for whiteheads that I’ll be trying over the next few weeks. I’ll keep you updated on my progress. Seems like the very best thing you can do for whiteheads (and blackheads) is be consistent with your cleaning. Wash daily with mild soap. Believe it or not, I DO already do this. However, I may switch … Continue reading

Essential Oils: Tea Tree

Tea tree essential oil is one no home aromatherapy kit should be without! It is a great all-around oil with antiviral, anti-fungal, anesthetic, and antibacterial properties. Tea tree is also a great natural deodorizer. You may find the scent of the essential oil a little medicinal, but you can always combine tea tree with one or two of the other oils in your kit for a more pleasant smell! NOTE: There are artificial products that have greater antibacterial or anti-fungal properties, but as far as natural remedies go, you can’t beat tea tree oil! Tea tree is one of the … Continue reading
