Courthouse Genealogy

The first time I remember feeling the Spirit was when I learned that families could be sealed together for all of eternity. It should not be surprising, then, that I have a deep love of genealogy and truly enjoy researching my family tree. As a young mom, however, I have restricted most of my efforts thus far to the internet. A recent courthouse trip – my first – taught me a few lessons. For years, I have found nothing but a solid brick wall in regards to my great-great-great grandparents. I did not even know their name, only that of … Continue reading

My body is mine on loan and I really need to be taking better care of it. “Or do you not know that your body … Continue reading

In the last few verses (13-17), Christ goes down to the waters of Jordan to be baptized by John who, you’ll remember, held the Aaronic priesthood. If Christ, who was perfect, had need to be baptized, what does that say for us? When Christ approached John about the baptism, John asked how Christ could need to be baptized by him, a mortal man. Obviously, John recognized the divine nature of the Savior. I am sure that, as he grew, Elizabeth testified to him of the … Continue reading

Taking the Temple for Granted

You’ve probably heard the statement, ‘you never know what you have until you lose it.’ Well, count me among the lost and repentant. After living just over nine years in Atlanta, within a thirty minute drive from the temple (a good hour with traffic), I moved in November to Pennsylvania. The nearest temple is now a three hour drive away, assuming no traffic. Of course, on my first Sunday in our new branch, the subject of the sacrament meeting was temple worship. As I listened to the brother and sister who spoke extol the blessings and joys of temple work, … Continue reading
