Rachael Ray’s Donut Ad Gets Pulled Because Some Say She’s Dressed Like a Terrorist

Subtitle: Much Ado about a Single Scarf The big wigs at Dunkin’ Donuts have caved to the pressure and finally yanked an online ad featuring its celebrity spokesperson Rachael Ray wearing a fringed black-and-white scarf. The neckpiece was at the center of a debate between critics such as conservative commentator Michelle Malkin and Dunkin’ Donut execs. Malkin and hundreds like her complained to the donut chain that the scarf Ray wore in the ad offers symbolic support for Muslim extremism and terrorism. To Save the Children (1994)

Often, when I read a book that has been made into a movie, I hunt down the movie as well. This was the case with “To Save the Children.” Immediately after finishing the book “When Angels Intervene to Save the Children,” I went to Netflix and put the movie in queue. Richard Thomas plays David Young, a man with startling intellect and wild ideas. David believes that if he kills himself along with several children, they will all be reincarnated and he will become their god in the next life. His wife, Dorsie, has always gone along with his schemes, … Continue reading

When Angels Intervene to Save the Children – Hartt and Judene Wixom

In May of 1986, David Young stormed into the elementary school in Cokeville, Wyoming, and took over one hundred and fifty children and their teachers hostage. I was ten years old at the time and barely remember the news stories about it, so reading this nonfiction book about the tragedy was fresh to me. However, I somewhat misspeak when I call it a tragedy, for while it was truly a frightening and life-changing experience, it was also a miracle. David Young was mentally disturbed and believed that if he were to kill the children in the school, when they reached … Continue reading

Our Own Terrorist Aboard

It’s without hesitation we take this day to remember the victims of 9/11 and pray for their families. I hope these last 5 years have brought a sense of newness and found strength to those who’ve endured tragedy. May the arms of God surround you today. Inspired by our pastor’s sermon, I’d like to further elaborate about a terrorist we all have on board our own lives. An enemy that would prefer us to remain seated and calm while he takes over, keeping us ineffective for Christ, destroying as much as possible. This enemy is real. As we live our … Continue reading

Remembering 9/11

This year marks the fifth anniversary of 9/11. I have noticed an increase in media references and even conversation about the event. This is a good time to talk to your children about fears that they might have concerning terrorism and also reaffirm the most important things in life. Terrorism is a real thing. You only have to turn on the news to be reminded of that. Your children might have questions and it is hard to know how to best respond. To be honest it depends on the child. There is no need to discuss the tragedy and current … Continue reading
