Christmas in Florida

After the Blizzard of 2009, I’m sure more people than ever are considering traveling to Florida for Christmas. I prefer Hawaii myself, but I digress. Sunny Florida is a hotspot for snowbirds looking to escape Old Man Winter’s blast. However, some shy away from flying south because they don’t think the sand and surf make for a traditional Christmas backdrop. Little do they know that Florida is filled with festive displays and attractions this time of year, including: ORLANDO The House of Mouse goes all out for the holidays. If you are planning to travel to Orlando this month, don’t … Continue reading

What is Pleasure Island?

Ah, Pleasure Island. When I worked at Walt Disney World in the late 1980s, other reservationists and I would often go to Pleasure Island after a swing shift. Some of the names of the clubs have changed but the fun is timeless. If you’re planning a family vacation at Walt Disney World but would like to take an evening just for you and your spouse or significant other, book a babysitter through your Walt Disney World Resort and head to Pleasure Island for the evening. Pleasure Island is an island of nightclubs and restaurants with a few shops mixed in … Continue reading

For those of you who follow my advice and plan your vacations far in advance, here is a Disney event you might want to plan your next one around. The 2008 Night of Joy will actually be a two-day event held on September 5 and 6, 2008, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (formerly Disney/MGM Studios). This event has moved from its previous venue so this year is its first at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This is an event that has been going on for over twenty years now. In that time, it has entertained a combined audience of over nine hundred thousand … Continue reading

What Were These Parents Thinking?!

In December of 2007, three whole teams competing in the Pop Warner Super Bowl Competition at Walt Disney World were evicted from the Walt Disney World All-Star Resort because of a fighting incident at the hotel. The teams involved were the Westport Patriots of Baltimore, the Kahalu’u Hei’eia Broncos of Kailua, Hawaii, and the Waianae Tigers of Waianae, Hawaii. The teams given the boot were made up of kids between the ages of 14 and 16. Now, granted, kids that age have a lot of new testosterone running through their systems and get they worked up pretty easily but give … Continue reading

Disney Coffee to Support our Troops

The Walt Disney World Dolphin resort goes through a lot of coffee. Every day, they leave packets of coffee in each guest room and, with all the visitors they have, that adds up to a pretty big hill of beans! Since they recently changed coffee supply companies, they’ve decided to get rid of the surplus coffee they had from their initial supplier and who better to give it to than United States’ troops serving overseas? Well, that’s what I think and apparently what somebody in charge at the Dolphin thought too. Thanks to the Wesley Chapel nonprofit group “Support Our … Continue reading
