Choosing a Wedding Theme

When planning a wedding, choosing theme never really entered my mind. When I think of the word “theme” I think of a type of character or well-known symbol. However the more that I thought about having a wedding theme, the more I realized that all weddings have a theme. While the theme may be more suitably considered a “mood”, in essence it is still a theme. I have been to weddings that have had a cowboy or country theme where the bridesmaids and groomsmen wore boots. I have been to a wedding with a John Deere theme where everything was … Continue reading

Should You Include Your Fiancé’s Family in the Wedding

Planning a wedding can be stressful. You have many decisions that have to be made. Some decisions you may have made years ago and planned from the time you were old enough to even dream of a wedding. However, your bridesmaids cannot be planned that far in advance. Friends change and your life changes. The people that you want to have in your wedding also changes. Depending on the size of your wedding, you may only be able to ask your closest friends or you may be out looking for acquaintances. Either way the possibility of someone getting her feelings … Continue reading

Would you spend $1 million dollars on your wedding? What about $2 million? The average wedding runs about $30,000 dollars currently in the United States, but if you had a $1 million to spend, would you do it? According to Forbes Magazine – there are more than 20 celebrity couples that have spent a million dollars or more on their nuptials and if that’s not enough to make your jaw drop, the sad part is – most of these marriages didn’t last. More on Runaway Brides

We were talking about Runaway Brides – Why Do They Flee? earlier today. We talked about cold feet and nervousness, but are those the only reasons why a bride might abandon her groom at the altar? I remember during my wedding preparations, all the hoopla was getting to me and I shared the story of when one of the coordinators approached me and told me that if I wanted to call it off, now was the time before we approached the actual area for the ceremony. The question flabbergasted me then and amuses me now. A wedding is a rite … Continue reading

Runaway Brides – Why Do They Flee?

I was watching The Runaway Bride this weekend, you know the movie that stars Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Roberts’ character attempted and fled from three separate wedding ceremonies to men she cared a great deal about. When we meet her, Roberts character is preparing to walk down the aisle for the fourth time, but in each of those relationships – she remade herself to be someone that would appeal to her partner and she wasn’t herself. Runaway Brides So why do brides run away? When Jennifer Wilbanks fled her wedding in 2005, she made up a story about being … Continue reading

Ask a Marriage Blogger – Can We Sing Our Vows?

Good morning, I have an odd question for you. I enjoy reading your blogs and I’ve been reading a great deal about wedding planning in your blog, but there is one question you hadn’t actually addressed. If you have the time, would you mind writing about whether or not a couple can sing their vows to each other rather than repeat the statements made by the minister? My fiancé and I have always had a passion for musicals. I guess this is cheesy, but the idea of having a musical wedding is something that makes us both laugh. In our … Continue reading

Are Dates Lucky in Love?

Last year, Libby wrote a great blog related to the date of June 6, 2006 and how many people were worried about the numerology of the date. So this year, it should hardly be surprising that a new number is making the rounds, but this time in the sense of how lucky is the date going to be for lovers planning their wedded bliss. July 7, 2007 Rolling three sevens on a slot machine is a sure way to win the jackpot and apparently, the most popular day for wedding planners this year is 7/7/07. Wedding Planning – Kindness is King

Can it really have been back in June when I wrote Register to Give; Not to Receive? It seems a very long time ago indeed. But apparently the kindness trend is on the upswing and what better time to make a commitment to incorporating kindness in your wedding planning. Love them or hate them, that is exactly what Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are doing for their wedding – they want to include acts of kindness in their wedding planning. Jolie is reportedly looking for her wedding dress not in the houses of fashion, but through Goodwill – in order … Continue reading
