Learning to Love Your Body

We all know that motherhood comes with a price. Your body goes through a remarkable transformation as it prepares to grow another human being. If you are like most of us, you probably have a few battle scars to show for it. I’ve gotten used to my tiger stripes, but I still struggle with my post-pregnancy body. It’s been almost 5 years since I had Logan and I’m still not to my pre-pregnancy weight. I envy my friends who walk out of the hospital looking like a model in their size 2 jeans again. When I left the hospital I … Continue reading

When Weight Enters Politics

I am by no means one of those persons that like to jump on the political bandwagon.  I have my own opinions, which aren’t usually shared. But I have to admit that I am quite disturbed over the fact that someone’s weight has become a political issue.  I am talking about New Jersey governor, Chris Christie. There is some belief that he may be getting ready to run in the next election.  If that’s true, I hope he is ready for things to get real personal.  Because that is how our society tends to handle politics…it gets down deep into … Continue reading

Giving Up Before You Have Started

Don’t give up before you have even gotten started!  Those are my words of advice and hope for anyone who has come off the past week of the holidays feeling defeated. You might have done a lot of indulging.  In fact, it could be that you ate enough the past several days that you’re wondering if there is really any hope to becoming a fitter person. In thinking about the New Year, you might be questioning how it can make any real difference.  What’s so magical about the start of a New Year anyway?  How can that change the outer … Continue reading

Causes for Not Losing Weight

Despite changing your eating habits and exercising on a regular basis, you may be experiencing the frustration of not losing weight or even worse, putting on a few pounds. This can lead you to believe that your fitness changes aren’t really making a difference. But hold on…there may be some explanations for it that you need to explore. For instance, we know that eating salty or sugary foods can put on the pounds. But we fail to recognize other factors that can also contribute to weight gain, with one of them being stress. Yes, stress can cause you to gain … Continue reading

Would You Be Happier to Be Thinner Than Your Spouse?

Would you be happier if you were thinner than your spouse? I recently read in “Health News” that a new study from the University of Tennessee found that women who had a lower body mass index (BMI) than their husband in the first few years of marriage were much more satisfied. What they discovered is that it really had less to do with how skinny the wife was and more to do with her BMI. They apparently followed 169 couples, from the beginning of their marriages through the next four years. Men were also more satisfied when they had lower … Continue reading

Inches Off!

I am holding my breath, not daring to think too much of it. I have finally gotten under a plateau that I have been battling for months now. Many, many months. I teetered back and forth all of this time, but I have finally reached it. I am afraid to make a move or rather not to make a move. I have been exercising no more than usual, but using different types of exercise all at the same time. The stepper machine has worked wonders on getting the inches off and toning the lower half up. I can feel it … Continue reading

Do You Need To Gain Weight To Conceive?

It’s rumored that Amy Winehouse is attempting to gain weight so she can conceive. In case you don’t know who this celebrity is, she is a British singer who is probably more famous for her drunken outbursts and drug habits than she is for her massive bee-hive and former hit song ironically titled “Rehab.” She is incredibly thin, and if this rumor is true, I think a few pounds would probably help quite a bit. There is a difference between being very thin and underweight. It all has to do with your percentage of body fat. Body fat is essential … Continue reading

Confessions of a Late Night Muncher

When do you cave into your food cravings? Do you race for snacks when you walk in the door, when you are bored or stressed? I am a late-night muncher. I remember in college, after a night out, I would always stop for pizza or grab a bag of chips at the store on the way home. Unfortunately, years later, little has changed, except now I have a few kids and fewer cocktails. I could easily consume two thirds of my calories after everyone else is in bed. I wish there was a late night munchers anonymous. We could talk … Continue reading

Fitness Magazine/Fitness Website Review

Fitness magazine is one of the top-selling fitness magazines. One of my favorite magazines it has all kinds of good information in it for anyone wanting to stay in shape. Topics include subject areas, such as weight loss, health, recipes that are good for you, beauty and working out. It is a good read and I have picked up so many tips on staying fit. I cannot say as one section of the magazine was better than the other, as they are all fantastic and helpful for those wanting to shed some extra pounds. A one-year subscription is reasonable and … Continue reading

Kevin Smith vs. Southwest Airlines

In case you haven’t heard director/writer Kevin Smith was kicked off a Southwest Airlines flight. Kevin had always purchased two tickets when flying because he says it is the “food-stamp airline” so he indulges himself. Last week, Kevin had purchased his usual two tickets, but decided to fly standby on an earlier flight in which there was only one seat left. He got seated, and then was asked to leave because he was too big. Southwest (and most other airlines) have policies that if a passenger cannot comfortably lower the armrest or hangs over their own seat so much that … Continue reading
