Unfortunately, there's almost nothing that I would realistically use. I need to try to remember to look online more often for coupons. But then, if I remember to bring them with me to the grocery store or Target, I need to remember to take them out of my purse! Always a problem. And I wonder if stores in my area would even accept the online coupons. What good are they, if you can't use them? I'm happy I remember to save AND use my gas coupons (1 cent's worth off/gallon per each $10 in grocery order total). The station I go to accepts expired coupons (Yay!!), as well as competitors' coupons (up to 5 cents, but you can use *only* either the competitors' coupons OR the station's, up to a qty of three.). Why is it I cannot remember to cut, save, and USE food coupons?? -- that is, when I find any I can use. Gourmet Food at Home - Blog Entry21 Mar 2009 11:37 AM I like adding sriracha sauce (the bottle with the rooster on it) to as many things as I can think of. I can thank a blogger in my state for cluing me in to its existence (I never paid attention to it before, even if some restaurants have it on tables). It's an Asian condiment sometimes referred to as hot sauce (and it's hot!). It makes my food less boring, and a bit more exotic, for sure. I have even mixed it with Heinz ketchup and dipped Tricuits in it. Yummm.... :-) But use sriracha sauce sparingly, with caution -- it's not for the feint (?) of heart, weak tastebuds, you know? A huge 28-ounce bottle is, at the most that I've seen, about $3.50, and lasts foreverrrr. Good Ideas from Good Housekeeping - Blog Entry21 Mar 2009 10:52 AM I hate store loyalty cards -- I figure, if they want your business bad enough, they should just lower prices or advertise special sale items as being for *everyone*, not just loyalty card holders. I love the storage ideas. I do that for my purses, wallets, and tote bags -- stuff smaller items into larger ones (when reasonable) and pack them away. I don't have that many winter items (ironically, even though I live just across the border from Canada). But if I did, I would employ the same storage method as you mentioned. Good piece! Digitize Your Directions - Blog Entry13 Mar 2009 02:31 PM P.S. I forgot to mention, because I have e-mail capabilities on my cell phone, sending directions to myself aids in my travels. I don't have a home computer, which is why I utilize my cell phone e-mail abilities all the time. Digitize Your Directions - Blog Entry13 Mar 2009 02:30 PM My cell phone service provider has a special gps type of feature. But at an additional $10 a month, I would rather try to figure out another way to *find* my way. Even if I could afford one, I don't want a system for my car. If I'm able to look up directions ahead of time, I like to do so on the computer, then e-mail them to myself, in addition to printing them out. Granted, as you said, the online directions aren't always correct. But I find that this works pretty well for me. I tend to encounter navigation problems sometimes, when taking new bus routes or going someplace new. On occasion, I end up having to call the bus company or people at my destination. Luckily, that doesn't happen too often. Getting Ready for Outgrown Sales - Blog Entry13 Mar 2009 02:23 PM I've never heard of this kind of sale. Are they held all over the country? Could they perhaps be referred to by another name? Big Wedding Versus Small Wedding - Blog Entry13 Mar 2009 08:39 AM I am 40 and single, and no matter what the economy is like, I don't plan on having a large wedding. If I ever marry. Even since I was little, I've not wanted a huge event. Too much stress, too much money. Especially nowadays. For me, I'd be just as happy marrying quietly and cheaply, and then just having a big picnic with family and friends in a park. Their presence and any potluck item they may be able to bring, would be fine. No one would be turned away or looked down upon if they couldn't bring anything. And guests wouldn't be solely depended upon for all of the food, goodness, no. I grew up going to these kinds of family get-togethers, and even for a wedding "reception", this would be ok with me. Now, of course, there's the groom's stance.... :-) When I have one, compromise may really come into play. Free Cookbooks and Recipes - Blog Entry10 Mar 2009 01:50 PM I love finding recipes online! I also like to check out what the libraries have. I would also recommend that one chat with friends and co-workers about recipes and cookbooks. You may be able to borrow the cookbooks, find things you like, and then have the opportunity to copy them down. I've lent my cookbooks out as well, to much appreciation. How about a get-together where people bring a few of their cookbooks, and offer to lend them out to others in attendance? Perhaps even go so far as to offer a cookbook (or just recipes) swap. Prada Taste on a Wal-Mart Budget - Blog Entry10 Mar 2009 01:43 PM Great piece. My big thing has always been the accessorizing idea. I have umpteen necklaces and other things to work with. I'm a HUGE clearance rack shopper, and am almost always able to find something I like, AND that could work for me, on any clearance rack I find. I also like to modify or repair accessories. I find that if something doesn't look entirely how I'd wear it, or if it just needs some tlc to make it wearable/usable again, and I know I can fix it up, then I'm good to go! I've turned belts into hip, chunky necklaces, chopped off parts of earrings that made them look too long or unattractive (to ME), switched around pieces on the jewelry, and played Frankenstein by different things together. Be creative, but realistic. A pair of needle-nose pliers, a pair of small wire cutters, and assorted leftover or extra supplies/findings work great, and are good to have on hand, for just such an occasion when you want to make something all your own! I've bought things simply to chop them apart and re-use them for other items. I have fun with this, and feel proud that I can save money by fixing or repairing things myself. What Turns You on? - Blog Entry09 Mar 2009 05:55 AM Oh, yeah -- leather jackets! Thanks, I had forgotten about those. A really good quality leather coat, a pair of nice jeans or trousers, a crisp shirt, and just a slight hint of a good cologne, and goodness-gracious. |
