The drape of the fabric may change when you cut the pads out, but it shouldn't be too bad. I've never had a problem modifying my clothes this way. There are tons of books at the library on how to update/re-use/modify clothing. I also like cutting up old unusable t-shirts, twisting and tying the ends, and using them for doggie tug-of-war toys. Dealing with Unexpected Expenses - Blog Entry13 Jul 2008 02:34 PM For me, it's the bill I just got from the hospital. Thank goodness for insurance, but I have a nice chunk as my responsibility. I'm cutting back on eating out, and as many non-essentials as I can force myself to go without, until the bill is paid off. Then I may reconsider if I even really need those things in the first place. Ways to Avoid Food Waste - Blog Entry13 Jul 2008 01:58 PM Our office is great when it comes to avoiding food waste. Whenever there's anything left over from meetings, the "vultures" descend so fast, the waste is left to practically crumbs most of the time. And it's usually *good* food, rarely junk. If anything substantial is left, we're allowed to bring some home.I mix those leftovers with items from home, and voila -- I have a new meal, and it can sometimes last a couple of days. What Is Your Frugal Roadblock? - Blog Entry13 Jul 2008 01:25 PM My frugal roadblock is my favorite local used bookstore. Specifically, their clearance section. Sometimes the lure is too much for me to resist, and I get sucked in the vortex of the front door. But I rationalize some visits, by thinking, well, at least the books are used, cheap, the store often has coupons and sales, and I can always find super gifts at great prices there. I, too, don't smoke, I almost never drink, and I could spend my money in worse places. I'm feeding my brain, right? ;-) Frugal Weekend Report: Sunday, July 13th - Blog Entry13 Jul 2008 01:08 PM Me? I've been reading some of my old magazines and books. Going outside with the dog and just relaxing, breathing in the beautiful weather today, and remembering how blessed I am. All of that, free. Priceless! No coupons necessary. I have a great family and great friends, which no "deal" can beat. It's the best deal I could get. :-) Frugal At Home: Lancaster Trip - Blog Entry13 Jul 2008 06:24 AM I save by being persistent and picky. This means, taking the time I need to source what I need, and getting the best quality and prices I can afford. Time isn't always on my side, but I find, if I put as much effort and thought into what I'm shopping for as I can, I won't buy stuff I don't need. Lists help me, too. Yesterday was one of my quickest trips through Target ever, as I made -- and strictly stuck to -- my list. :-) I'm learning! The Dogs at the Party - Blog Entry05 Jul 2008 12:58 PM Cute piece! Adorable pix, too. My dog and I didn't go to any parties, but we still had fun. We plopped down on the couch and watched baseball, then another program. When it came time for fireworks in the area, he did real well, sticking by me. He only barked a little, which was great, considering past years. I think that he was calmer because I was, and he could also stick right by me. He freaked out more when he heard fireworks on the radio! Go figure. LOL De-Cluttering Boot Camp: Being Overwhelmed - Blog Entry05 Jul 2008 12:26 PM I loathe packing peanuts. Major pet peeve, but I know there are definitely worse things. I do give them to mailing centers if I get them in packages. A good reminder, thanks, Penny. My home isn't as tidy as I'd like it to be right now, mainly just because I am recovering from foot surgery, and I can't accomplish things as well as usual. But it's amazing what a determined mind can do, anyway. :-) Thank goodness for my family, though, who've been a huge help, including in de-cluttering. De-Cluttering Boot Camp: Being Overwhelmed - Blog Entry04 Jul 2008 04:58 AM I'm a big fan of "Clean House". I thought I was bad sometimes, but looking the people on that show makes me feel better! I employ the method of de-cluttering that you mentioned -- focusing one thing/area, and going from top to bottom, bottom to top, whatever direction works. It helps me not to worry so much about what needs to be done, and be proud of what I accomplished. Baby Blog Month in Review: June 2008 - Blog Entry04 Jul 2008 04:45 AM I'm just an auntie, and friend of folks w/babies/kids. But I enjoy this site and the blogs. I wish I could add first-hand experience with my own babies :-) I guess, if there would be anything I'd like to read about in the baby blog, is people in their late 30s, early 40s having/with babies. It may never happen in my life, but I think it would be interesting to read what I *might* encounter, etc., etc. Thanks! |
