I've found some awesome things, from beautiful, unique dishes, to quirky or religious knicknacks, to designer/very nice clothing and purses. They also have great books, picture frames, and artwork. You can always swap out the artwork for something else, if you're still loving the frame. A couple of helpful hints, though: 1) Go forth & shop with a positive outlook.. 2) Have an open mind to many options. 3) Have patience, as many as you can muster. :-) 4) Like Nicole mentioned, when considering an item, think about if all you need to do to improve it, is safely launder it, make a small repair it, or alter it to suit you. I've fixed up plenty of items easily, good as new. An Attitude of Gratitude 2 - Blog Entry14 Jun 2008 08:08 AM I know I posted this story for another article, but it bears repeating, for this one as well. It's one example of a "happy accident", an un-planned bargain I was grateful for. I left early from work because of computer problems for all of our office. I had a rare craving for a cheeseburger and fries, so I stopped at the golden arches. I was given my meal for free, since their server was down, and all I had to pay with was my check card (I confess, I rarely carry cash. My bad, I know.). I was so grateful for that stroke of good luck. I mean, I finally make one of those rare trips to eat fast food, and I came on a good day -- for ME. An Attitude of Gratitude - Blog Entry12 Jun 2008 08:06 PM I loved this article.Exercising frugality even a little here and there can make a big difference. Being grateful for what they already have is so crucial.Sure, life can be really hard when we don't have some things, or enough of others. But an attitude of gratitude is SO important, as being grateful for even the "small things" in life contributes to a truly "rich" existence. Questions Answered about Cream of Soup - Blog Entry10 Jun 2008 01:38 AM Super! Or, should I say, souper! Thanks. I appreciate it. I've never made one. Where to Find Money - Blog Entry09 Jun 2008 05:27 PM I found a penny tonight on a bench at the bus stop -- face up, even. Meaning good luck! Does that count? Now, no matter if I found dollar bills face up or down, I wouldn't care -- I'd pick 'em up right quick! Now, if I could just find 274 more pennies for a 1-way bus fare. :-) Or maybe a 5-spot Are Recession Bargain Hunters Making It Harder to Be Frugal? - Blog Entry09 Jun 2008 05:12 PM You're welcome! How about this for being frugal.... On my way home from work on Friday, I decided to satisfy a rare craving for a cheeseburger and fries, by visiting the golden arches. Cheap, albeit, not the most nutritional, obviously. When I began to offer my card for payment, I was told I'd get my meal FREE, as their server was down, and my card was the only way I had to pay. Talk about a good decision to make a rare trip to Mickey D's. And I wasn't even looking for a deal. It found ME. Questions Answered about Cream of Soup - Blog Entry09 Jun 2008 04:54 PM Do you know of a lite cream of chicken soup recipe, one that would have reduced sodium and fat? Or is making one that specific too hard? By the way, hope you're feeling better! :-) How'd that Caribbean recipe turn out?? National Donut (or Doughnut) Day! - Blog Entry08 Jun 2008 04:58 PM Oh, tartar sauce! I missed it, finding out about the holiday a couple days late. A goal for next year -- to make homemade doughnuts on the holiday. :-) Are Recession Bargain Hunters Making It Harder to Be Frugal? - Blog Entry08 Jun 2008 07:19 AM Harder to be frugal? I know it's seemingly much crazier at Sam's Club than I would have expected it to be, sans economy problems. Maybe some of the newbies will indeed embrace long-term the bargain hunting. Maybe not. Rainchecks and other future deals or great sales are very possible or inevitable, should a deal be missed. One needs to put a smile on and do one's best to hunt down their deals. A door closes, but a window is always open. Somewhere. :-) A New Way to Save Money on Milk - Blog Entry07 Jun 2008 11:12 AM I've been drinking powdered milk for eons. Even with my Cheerios, it's fine. Granted, you have to get the powder/milk ratio just right, and stir and stir like mad, to ensure it gets mixed well enough. But once you've got it down, it's delish, and not to mention cheaper and more sensible. I love regular store-bought skim milk. But I can't justify spending more than I need to. There aren't many farms around my area anymore. So I couldn't begin to tell you how far I'd have to drive to buy milk directly from the source. The gas budget would eat up any savings on the milk. |
