So I went around 10:30, 11am. I thought the a/c would be nice. Alas, it was too warm there, even though there weren't crowds all over yet. The mall is usually a nice respite from heat. But I was better off once I got home. Thank goodness that here in MN, we have basements! French Connection - Blog Entry29 May 2008 05:19 PM I'm no fan of Madonna. But I don't blame her for being irate, and not paying her bill. I wonder if she has any legal recourse. Outlet Shopping - Blog Entry29 May 2008 04:33 PM Mary Ann, thanks for the tip! Like the previous poster, StBridgit said, great deals can also be had via store clearance racks. I regularly visit a large WI-based chain store, where I am often able to get fantastic deals on clearance. In-store and mailed coupons help too. I'll see if my church (or another nearby one) has a program set up for trips to our local outlets. Outlet Shopping - Blog Entry27 May 2008 05:38 PM I'd love to shop the outlets in MN. But they're too far from my home, and with the price of gas, I can't see making a solo trip to one. That is, unless I were on my way to or from a location near one of the outlet malls. Your reasoning for visiting them makes sense. Now, if I were able to arrange a carpool trip to one, and get donations for gas from participants, it might work out ok. Gas Pumps Cheat Customers - Blog Entry26 May 2008 05:02 PM Compared to many other countries, we Americans are pretty lucky to pay what we do for gas, even if we cringe, and our bank account takes another hit to pay for it. I know it's a bigger expense these days, but we're so fortunate in many other ways. I take the bus every day, and strongly recommend it, whenever possible. At the most, I pay $2.75 for a 1-way trip. Takes longer to get somewhere, but a welcome savings, and so less stressful than driving. Restaurant Food at Home - Blog Entry26 May 2008 04:44 PM I love the breakfast sandwich idea. I do pretty much the same thing. But I often use a cheesy bread square from Super Target. I slice it, and place it cut side down in a buttered skillet, and heat/toast for a short bit. I got this idea after seeing a coffee shop guy in Connecticut prepare my bagel like this. Otherwise, my toster oven works great too. Yummy idea, Ms. Author! :-) Free Fast Food Today (and Cheap Food, too) - Blog Entry26 May 2008 04:33 PM Because of my longtime, frequent patronage of a local Chinese restaurant, I have been getting a free beverage with my meal for the last several years. While the offer to loyal customers like me may be recinded someday, especially due to the economy, as well as the store's new ownership, the free beverage has saved me umpteen dollars over the last few years. And I can't complain about that. The Ethics of Samples - Blog Entry26 May 2008 01:59 AM I don't often get samples, but here's a related tip: When I get tiny tubes of lotion that are attached to larger ones, I refill them and reuse them when first used up. This usually requires that I cut the hole with a scissors or utility blade, enlarging it in order to refill with more lotion. It does take time and patience, but it's great for avoiding being wasteful, and work perfectly for purse-sized take-alongs. Just remember what lotion you put in which tube, as it may not match what's printed on the tube. The Recession and Garage Sales 2 - Blog Entry25 May 2008 05:04 PM I really don't do garage sales, rather, I shop at Goodwill more often than I used to in years past. I wonder if they plan to raise prices in the near future. A different environment, but still something I think people are gravitating to more these days, given the economy. Personally, I prefer thrift stores over garage and yard sales. The stores I enjoy most are close by, and with gas being an arm and a leg, I don't want to traipse all over, looking for garage sales. A Fairy Princess Room from Junk Mail - Blog Entry19 Apr 2008 06:32 AM It wasn't exactly junk mail, but a magazine I never buy, and would have considered junk, had it not been for the handsome famous baseball player on the cover. I cut out the cover and decorated my cubicle with it. It's not as inventive as the author's idea in her daughter's room. But let me tell you, when I'm having a rough day, a glance at this hunk makes life a little better! ;-) |
