I just got the purse from the Orange County, CA Goodwill, but through shopgoodwill.com -- the onine shopping site for some of the Goodwills around the country (a little more tricky than going into the store, but very interesting, and hit-or-miss). I haven't been to my local GW much this month, but I hope to see what they have this weekend! I usually luck out by finding something, no matter what month I go. But no matter when I go, dress pants are always the hardest for me to find, as, 1) I'm plus size (not really different than the average American woman, though), and 2) I know what I want and am very particular about my pants. Because I haven't any kids, I could easily spend a couple of hours searching for items. I just gave 3 huge bags of things to my GW, after waiting in line in my car for at least 15 minutes. My area seems to be doing ok. Maybe it's a regional thing, or maybe universal with declining donations, on occasion. I don't have time or patience to sell my donated goods. Fashion Frugalista - Blog Entry14 Jan 2009 12:31 PM Most of my dress pants and blouses for work are from Goodwill. Although, it takes a lot of time, patience, and persistence to find my size and desired style ideas, as well as items in acceptable condition. I love a challenge, though. Maybe I'll luck out like you did and find some other great deals for $5. :-) Congrats on your find! It's SO cool when that happens, isn't it? Fashion Frugalista - Blog Entry12 Jan 2009 12:31 PM Thanks, Mary Ann! Great ideas. I have found some awesome shoe deals online. Most recently, I got 2 pairs of shoes that were each originally $210, for a whopping sum of only $60! AND free shipping. I always scour the Internet for shoes, especially if I can't find what I need and want at brick and mortar stores. Amazon. com and Zappos.com are my favorites. I also got the current pair of shoes I'm wearing from Goodwill, a first for me. They're maybe from Paylerss, originally, but I don't care. They were in fabulous condition, my size, CUTE, and only $6.99. Works for THIS frugal fashionista! Will Buying Used Clothes and Toys or Reselling Them Soon Be Illegal? - Blog Entry08 Jan 2009 11:40 AM I still can't believe it. How in the world would they enforce it? I also heavily shop Goodwill and one favorite consignment store. Plus, an occasional garage sale (they're huge in MN every Spring-Summer-Fall). I know that there needs to be laws and protections in place, for good reason. But this one just doesn't make much sense to me. I look forward to updates! Thanks, Mary Ann! Salt Dough Ornaments - Blog Entry29 Dec 2008 06:55 AM Sorry for this very belated comment (not always able to post anything in a timely manner). I used to make these kinds of ornaments all the time when I was a kid. :-) I didn't always succeed, but I had fun, which is what it's all about. Thanks for the article! I will have to try making these again sometime. A Recipe for Healthy School Snacks - Blog Entry24 Dec 2008 08:53 AM I bring my lunch and snacks to work. But I occasionally buy something from the tiny sandwich shop in my office building. I often bring some of the same foods and snacks that you mentioned. One of my favorite snacks is Triscuits. You have to watch the ingredient and nutrition lists, though, as many foods have more stuff than you'd expect, especially some so-called "healthy" items. I bought a "low fat" peanut butter. Its sodium content was scary. I found a better one, after paying more attention to the labels. There's often little difference between some healthy foods and more "regular" foods. The Case of the Missing Earring 3 - Blog Entry16 Dec 2008 07:36 PM If it makes you feel any better, a couple of years ago, Jesus fell off of the rosary that I keep on my car's rear view mirror. Haven't found Him yet. :-( Bums me out, because it was a very special rosary I got in New York City. But like you said, in the grand scheme of things, it's not so bad. Maybe a mouse is grateful he found your earring, as he really needed it to hold his front door shut, keeping out the ccccold winter air. :-) Longest Celebrity Marriages - Blog Entry15 Dec 2008 07:21 PM Oh, wow! I didn't even notice what category blog this was -- I just clicked on the link that leads me to your latest blogs. Congratulations on the new "home"! I enjoy your writing. :-D The Case of the Missing Earring 3 - Blog Entry15 Dec 2008 05:12 PM I'm not a mom, just an auntie, but maybe this idea will help. Even work! Try to enlist the help of the kids. Make it into a huge deal, a game! Make it sound like they're on a wild safari adventure, yadda, yadda, yadda. Go for it and embellish as much as it takes to get the kids involved. Maybe even offer them a reasonable reward for finding the earring, or at least, for trying. Weave in a lesson of not messing with stuff that isn't yours, but don't make it sound like a big lecture or sermon. Make the lesson part of the fun. Even if the earring is never found, perhaps this excursion to find it will stick with the kids in a positive way, and lead to other beneficial happenings. You know how kids come up with the darndest things! :-) And sometimes, they're so awesomely thoughtful and caring, you wonder, "WHAT was I worried about??" LOL Good luck, Mrs. Author Lady! :-) |
