LOLOL I've been there. No kids, but reorganized priorities according to current conditions and levels of importance. I can't wait to hear the end!! :-) Snow, Ice and Your Home - Blog Entry14 Dec 2008 05:21 AM One more tip. If you have a dog, you may need to shovel a path or an area or two on your lawn/in your yard. This helps your canine friend have an easy place to take care of business. We have a small dog, so he needs us to make way for him in the yard (we take him on a leash). Nothing big or involved. If you have a larger dog, this may not be needed. Tips for Driving in the Snow, Frugally - Blog Entry13 Dec 2008 11:37 AM Yeah, you could say that. :-) 1) If possible, use any main, busy roads by your home when driving in wintertime, especially after/during a snow storm. The side streets are always nerve-wracking for me as I drive to a park and ride bus station on my way to work every day. I make it a point to get onto a main road, and take it (and a couple of other busier roads), instead of the more slippery, sliding, dangerous roads by home. Yeah, it might take more time. But I make sure I leave plenty of time, still allowing for weather and traffic. Maybe I use a little more gas this way, but really, not too much. Besides, what's your safety worth? It pays to sometimes take longer routes, even to nearby places, simply because the side roads are never as safe as the more well-traveled and better plowed and sanded roads. If someone wants to zoom on by me because I'm driving a little slower in this Minnesota winter (DUH, hello!), so be it. I'll pray they don't cause an accident, and I'll remain the cautious, safe driver I was taught to be. (Was that a long enough tip for you? :-) Sorry, I was on a roll. They won't always be soooo long.) Tips for Driving in the Snow, Frugally - Blog Entry11 Dec 2008 12:44 PM My mom always hid our Christmas presents in the trunk of our old cars. Until we found out. LOL But it helped her maintain traction, whatever! My additional tip would be, the most frugal action is to BE CAREFUL. Taking care when driving in the winter will save you UMPTEEN dollars -- car repairs, tickets, legal fees, hospital and medical bills. And Heaven forbid, you should drive carelessly and end up passing away. Your survivors would be left with less than frugal bills for the funeral, etc. A drastic, morbid, but realistic thought. Living in Minnesota all my life has taught me to BE careful while driving in the winter. Watch out for the other folks, too. There are a lot of careless drivers out there, and you really need to be on the ball. Seven Frugal Holiday Activities - Blog Entry11 Dec 2008 07:01 AM Thanks for the ideas! After seeing the usual rerun of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" this week, I so want to go out and buy a copy for my own. And I don't have kids. LOL Still, it's nice for me, and anyoen else who wants to watch it, and other Christmas movies. I do have nieces and nephews, so maybe, as we gather this Christmas, we'll dig out some oldies but goodies and watch them. By the way, I'm having terrible trouble posting comments from my cel phone, so Ms. AUthor, please forgive my lengthy absences. :-) I'm trying to overcome the technical difficulty. Posting from work now, and better go! Online Holiday Shopping Tips (2) - Blog Entry09 Dec 2008 07:24 PM *curtseying* Thank you! Funny thing is, I didn't need coupon codes or to do anything special. Well, at first, I thought I had to spend $75 or more to get free shipping. But the merchant was only requiring that you get 2 or more pairs of their shoes through Amazon. I still can't believe I got $110 each pair of shoes for $60 for both pairs. I always look on that site for shoes, and have found some other fab deals. I need to also remember to always look for applicable coupon codes, so to increase the savings. Thank YOU for the tips!! Online Holiday Shopping Tips (2) - Blog Entry08 Dec 2008 07:55 PM I recently looked online for some shoes, as I've had to adjust to flats for as long as it takes for my right foot to heal from surgery. I got 2 pairs of Birkenstocks on Amazon.com for $60, and got free shipping! The style was slightly different than what I had been looking for. But they were a nice black Tatami style, still suitable for my office. The shoes retailed originally for $110. By compromising a little bit on what I chose, I got one sweet deal. My feet are grateful, and so is my pocketbook! :-) How Are You Spending the Day After Thanksgiving? - Blog Entry30 Nov 2008 06:14 AM How did your last-minute family event turn out? :-) Thanksgiving in the Emergency Room - Blog Entry29 Nov 2008 12:01 PM Best wishes to your SIL, Andrea. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Please keep us posted. :-) Mary Ann, "Crash Romans"?? LOL Sorry, tooooo funny. I think "Captain Crash" is another good moniker. Maybe he can graduate to that one as he grows older. Just hope he doesn't become a racecar driver, parachute jumper, etc. Maybe using it in high school and college sports (not in driving class!)would be good. LOL How Are You Spending the Day After Thanksgiving? - Blog Entry29 Nov 2008 11:55 AM I loved the part about your husband carrying your daughter who was asleep/waking up, in her smudged frilly dress. lol How adorable! Why be like all the boring kids and NOT have a fudge stain on your pretty dress? Yesterday, the daay after Thanksgiving, I did a little shopping, but nothing much. Just normal stuff at Target. I've been fighting a bad headache on and off for several days, so it's not been the most relaxing extra few days off from work. But there are worse things in life. I'm trying to enjoy the sunshine we're having today, and may even take the dog (a.k.a., The King of the Household) on a walk before sunset. I'm still thinking of what I'm thankful for, there are so many reasons! :-) |
