Trendy Home Made Christmas Gifts - Blog Entry

26 Oct 2008 03:31 PM

I humbly remind you of homemade sewing projects, despite one's level of expertise one way or the other. I am planning on making decorative pillows for family Christmas presents this year. There are books I've found at the library with fabulous quirky design ideas, much like the "monsters" used in Target's Halloween ads and in-store promotional decorations. Have fun, get way creative. I'm going to use as much fabric and materials as I can that I already have (re-purposing clothing, etc.), and only buy additional things as needed.

Warning about Carter Baby Clothing - Blog Entry

While I was eating lunch and watching CNN today at a restaurant, a story on this topic scrolled across the bottom. Unfortunately, it was cut off before finishing as they rolled to a commercial. Thanks for explaining this issue! Even though I don't have kids, nor do I take care of them/babies, this story piqued my interest and worried me. I hope Carter's, et al, get it figured out and resolved as best as possible. How scary...

Are Frugal People More Emotionally Mature? - Blog Entry

I've always hated marshmallows, so the one would still be there when the researcher got back. Now, if it were Hershey's Kisses, then I *may* have snatched one up before the researcher returned. I don't believe there's a tie to maturity, but an indication of how a child was raised and their willpower.

Yes or No? Answer These Frugal Questions - Blog Entry

I won't wash out plastic baggies. But I do re-use them several times over, within reason. I won't use bath towels or washrags more than once before washing. I won't save and re-use bacon grease (or any other similar grease). I had 2 college roommates who did that, and kept it in empty milk cartons -- out in the open in the kitchen. Not so good of an idea especially in the summertime. Ick, ick, ick.

Ohmygoodness! I don't do any of these. I can't *imagine* grabbing other people's leftover dinner rolls, especially not knowing where they've been, OR what may have touched them before I passed by. And bring one's own alcohol?? If I drank, I still wouldn't do that. But I'm sure some people do.

Creating a Rich Environment for Kids - Blog Entry

Hey!! I'd LOVE some homemade pizza too! :-) I'll bring the napkins and plates, and help clean up. How about my favorite, Canadian Bacon and pineapple? And a gooood sauce. Mmmm....!!

Appreciating the Little Things - Blog Entry

I have no disdain for people who live a frugal lifestyle. Analyzing a situation thoroughly before making a decision to act, be it frugally or not, is a very wise choice. When one makes decisions in haste, or with wanton disregard, more often than not, one gets burned. Researching something for a year before buying it, even if it's a common thing in most people's lives, is better than spending good money on a crummy item!

Going High Tech for a Low Cost - Blog Entry

17 Sep 2008 06:08 PM

After getting a Blackberry phone last November, I'll never get another brand again. I know it's not frugal in the least. But it has been the best phone I've ever had, and has been a great tool for me and my needs. I got a super deal on it the day after Thanksgiving (a good time to scope out deals!, plus, it was a b-day treat from me to me). Other than that, I'm just an average chick, not a brand or high-tech snob. Sometimes investing in an item is indeed worth it for numerous reasons. But like Mary Ann said, it's best not to get more bells and whistles than you'll ever need.

Dealing with School Fundraisers - Blog Entry

Sorry, I meant, if the kids participate and don't win any prizes, or if they don't participate, and therefore, don't win anything.... Please excuse the brain freeze. Hope I somehow made sense, eventually. LOL

Dealing with School Fundraisers - Blog Entry

Wow, $15 for a roll of wrapping paper?? Boy, am I out of touch. But I'm not a mom, so I don't hear about the school fundraisers nowadays. However, I like your ideas as well. As an aunt, I'd explain to the child(ren) that whether or not they participate in the fundraising, and don't win any prizes, that they're still a huge winner in *your* book. The mere fact that they did something GOOD for their school is a wonderful thing, which they should be very proud of. Then suggest that you and your child go do something fun together. Get creative. Maybe some parents would disagree with how *I* would handle it. I respect that. As an aunt, that's the best I can think of. :-)
