New Rule Closes the Loophole with the "Do Not Call List" - Blog Entry

Not all telemarketers are rude. Many are, indeed. But I recently had a political pollster call me. She couldn't have been nicer. I answered her few quick questions, and she was very grateful and pleasant. I've had much worse an experience from some customer service people.

One thing I forgot.... While robo calls are annoying (to say the least), I don't like them also because they put a real live human out of a job. At least, that's what I'm assuming. Maybe the calls still require a human in some way. Still, I fervently hope laws continue to come up, be enforced, and help us all enjoy a better life.

Frugal Food Options - Blog Entry

I love my crock pots. Yes, I have 2 sizes, plus a few different sizes of George Foreman grills (found for fab prices!), a toaster oven, a microwave, and 0plug-in pan thingie from QVC. I, too, love appliances. I hardly own any pans, as I can make almost everything in my appliances. Perhaps it sounds like I have too much. But it all works great for me and my cooking needs. I think, 1st and foremost, that family needs to start off by getting a 6-qt crock pot. Then go to town by looking online for recipes. They aren't as hard as the uninitiated may think! :-) Easy-cheesy.

I detest those pre-recorded ones! Thank goodness for caller id; if it is an unknown number, we don't even pick up. Hope the new upcoming rule helps even more. I bet some will find a way around it, though. Wish I could be more optimistic.

Stretching Your Makeup Savings - Blog Entry

One caveat about the repairing of broken pressed powder.... Although mixing it with rubbing alcohol works (after you've ground up the remaining chunks that broke out), after you let it dry, it can still break apart again. I've used this method many times. I use a powder brush to apply my pressed powder, as I prefer that manner over using a sponge or puff. Also, too much pwder tends to come out after doing the repair. I'm not sure why. Perhaps I haven't perfected the procedure. All I know is, it can still eventually lead to a little mess, in my experiences.

Is It Cost Effective to Bring a School Lunch? - Blog Entry

Ok, I was inspired by this article; today at Tarzhay-boutique (nickname for Target), I got a new reusable lunch bag (pink, my fave color), planning to bring my lunch to work more often. Seeing all the school supplies and parents shopping for last minute things, caused me to be reminiscient of days gone by. And more importantly, it made me want to try harder to be frugal, and also to be a smarter consumer by utilizing reusable items. Thanx, Mary Ann, for the piece. It caused me to re-assess my eating choices. Hopefully, I'll stick to the better choices as close as I can to always. :-)

Getting Creative with Almost-Expired Food - Blog Entry

Off track again for a moment.... :-) I date my books merely as a way to fondly remember when I got them. I may have begun it back in college, not sure. On food dates.... If I have expired bread or cereal (which rarely happens, since both go so fast), or crackers, etc., I put it out in the yard for the birds and other critters. Although I do mark my food's expiration dates, I'm not perfect at doing it, and therefore, *sometimes* still have wasted food. I confess. :-)

Mary Ann, thanx! :-) I'm not sure how I got the idea or for how long I've been doing it. But it really helps me keep up with what food I have and its lifespan. I even write the purchase date inside of books when I buy them! Now that's "different". LOL Last I heard, books don't have an expiration date. :-)

I'm not a mom. I should ask my sibs who are parents about their schools' prices. However, I liken this issue to whether or not I bring my own lunch to work. Sometimes, I buy it. But the only place in the building is overpriced, which is why, if I buy anything there, it's a salad (and the quality's been slipping, so I may stop buying there altogether). Or I walk to my fave Chinese restaurant for the all-you-can-eat buffet (good, AND cheap, $7 or 8, I think.) I'm lucky that our office sometimes has leftover meeting food, which also helps me save loads on lunch. I definitely save money if I bring my own food. But how much, I've never calculated.

Comic Strip Mom Prepares to Say Good-Bye - Blog Entry

Well, I'm sure Ms. Johnston deserves a break in the form of retirement, after so many years. I wish her the best, and am happy I discovered her work. I just dug out the comics from today's paper, which has the beginning of the end strip. Thanx, Michelle. I didn't know about any of this.
