I haven't tried it yet myself. It does warn that it will kill the grass too, but you just have to aim carefully. It might be worth a try on the ones that snap off at the base. Let me know if it works. :) Rent Your Children for Extra Cash - Blog Entry01 Apr 2010 07:55 AM PS... my dad use to tell us almost daily, "We had kids so we would have some easy labor.. get to work" (he was kidding of course.. about his reasons at least.. we were expected to pull our own weight!) Rent Your Children for Extra Cash - Blog Entry01 Apr 2010 07:52 AM That was good. I was really sitting there reading this going.. IS SHE SERIOUS?? I mean.. Healthiest Frugal Foods - Blog Entry31 Mar 2010 10:10 PM I was excited to see we actually eat quite a few of these already. Do you know a good recipe for homemade almond butter?? Buying it is SO expensive, but we are not big fish eaters and that was the biggest gap for us was all the omegas. Frugal Easter Tips - Blog Entry30 Mar 2010 11:13 AM We also have left over easter eggs from free community hunts/church hunts we attend each year. At the end of the holiday, I put all the empty eggs in their baskets and put their baskets in the top of the closet. Next year, we pull them down, pull out our leftover halloween/Christmas/Valantines candy and recontribute. We haven't bought eggs or candy in years! :) Growing Groceries: Basil - Blog Entry26 Mar 2010 10:23 AM Basil was one of the first things I ever had any success growing. I bought some seeds cheaply at the dollar store (4 packs for a dollar) and threw them in an empty bed near the house). Before I knew it I had basil BUSHES and we LOVE it. We also take bunches of it to our friends houses whenever we visit as a little thank you. Tied up with a little ribbon it's always a very welcome treat for people who are use to spending quite a lot of money at the grocery store to buy it fresh. It's also so easy to make a big batch of pesto and put it in jars for gifts. At the end of the season I harvest what I have and process it in the food processor and freeze it in ice cube trays so I can continue to have that fresh basil taste all through the winter in my soups, pasta sauce and pizzas. YUM! Three Easy Ways to Slash Your Grocery Bill - Blog Entry26 Mar 2010 07:02 AM I had a baby sitter who use to do "buffet" every time she watched us. She heated up the leftovers and put them out. We thought it was SO much fun because we got to be in control of what we ate a bit more than usual. That's a good memory. Thanks Kelly. :) Mary Ann - I have learned so much about this topic from your blogs. I especially realized how often we waste. We've gotten really creative with using up all those little bits. Yay for quesadillas using up that handful of black beans! Thanks for all the advice. Over the Counter Eyeglasses, Frugal or Crazy - Blog Entry04 Feb 2010 11:22 PM eyebuydirect.com!!! Getting Started with Slow Cooking - Blog Entry25 Jan 2010 12:19 PM I love the tip about pre-preping and freezing the meals and then pulling them out the night before. What a great way to always have a easy meal on hand. Thanks! Living on One Income - Blog Entry19 Jan 2010 08:30 PM I absolutely agree. My husband and I have been on one income for 5 years now as I have stayed home with my children. I hear a lot of people say they can't afford to stay home, but then I see those same people having to pay HUGE percentages of their income to child care, they pine to be with their children, they are so stretched for time, they eat out significantly more than my husband and I do. They have to pay often for conveniences because they just don't have time to seek out deals and shop smartly. I often think how surprised they would be to find they could live just as well on one income if they invest their 9-5 job energy into becoming expert managers of their money and resources. |
