I say skip the alcohol. I've been to so many weddings where uncle so and so gets drunk and make a fool of himself or something else like that... The alcohol doesn't really add any thing much to the party and in most cases it's one of the most expensive things. If you do chose to have it, skip the open bar.

We live in a college town and they let you walk into the baseball games for free after the 4th inning. I don't know if that is common practice or not, but it works great for us because we have small children who wouldn't make it through the whole game anyways.

When it comes to jewelry my advice is to chose one really WOW piece that's maybe a bit chunky, fun, trendy and then make sure the rest is more understated. For example.. if I'm wearing a pair of jeans and a black tank top I can pair is with a cute pair of inexpensive flats with a little bit of pattern in black and maybe a big black chunky necklace and a pair of fake diamond stud earings.

The Money Saving Benefits of Spring Cleaning - Blog Entry

I really find cleaning a good antidote to discoontentment in many things in my life. Cleaning up and rearranging/organizing what I already have can really make me feel like I've gained something new and fresh and that contentment squelches my desire to go consume and purchase new things.

I actually just started an etsy site (thebirchperch.etsy.com) selling my felt food. That is my main obsession now is making play felt food. It's so much fun and they make great gifts too.

They also REFUSED to remodel and add another bathroom to their home, so that all 6 children had to share one bathroom. This was even with the fact that Mr. Brady was an architect. Did anyone else find that a bit ironic... hehhee. Maybe they were trying to teach some kind of lesson in sharing. I'm sure it kept the water bill down.. no one got to leisurely shower in the morning when there were 5 other kids waiting to get ready... :)

Saving Money on Television - Blog Entry

We too have discovered watching the little tv we watch online. We don't have cable and don't miss it. It's amazing how much time we have in our lives because we DON'T watch TV. Most the people I know religiously watch at least one show every evening. That is about an hour a day at least that they can't accomplish much else. I guess some people mutlitask in front of the TV, but it's pretty limiting. I also find the longer we go without watching TV the more we are re-sensitised to just how TRASHY everything is. We turn on the TV now after a good 2 years of not watching and are SHOCKED at what is said, done and tolerated on Television and we don't even have CABLE.
