Previously, I introduced a new section that I am adding to the education topic at Families.com. This section, Tips for Teachers, will highlight some tips that I have learned from experience and veteran teachers. One thing that has taken trial and error for me over the past couple of years is the purchasing of student supplies. When teaching eighth grade, supplies were not as big of a deal. I have chosen the same topic for the letter P for both perks and concerns of public education. I feel that parents can be on both sides. First, I would like to discuss parents as being a perk. This year for me has been wonderful in the department of parents. I have had very few complaints or issues that have arose with parents. I am always amused when I hear parents say “I wish that I could homeschool my children, but I don’t know how to teach.” Whether parents realize it or not they are their child’s first teacher. Your child’s first learning experience happened in the home. They learned to walk, talk, dress themselves, rode their bicycles under your supervision.
