Have you heard the name Susan Boyle? If not, chances are you have not been watching television, listening to the radio, or scanning the Internet because it seems like this week, her name is everywhere.
Remember Paul Potts, the unassuming cell phone salesman who wowed the world with his singing on “Britain’s Got Talent” a few years ago? Well, “Britain’s Got Talent” has done it again, this time with Susan Boyle.
Susan is an unemployed charity worker who lives alone with her cat Pebbles in Blackburn, West Lothian, Scotland. Susan’s never been married and has never even been kissed. When Susan took the show’s stage at the Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow, there were snickers and eye rolling from the audience. Of course, it continued when Susan said she wanted to be a professional singer. I hate to say it, but you know with talent shows, looks go a long way. Susan wasn’t dressed like a star and she certainly didn’t look like one.
But, when she opened her mouth, she caused hard to please judge Simon Cowell’s mouth to drop. It took mere seconds of singing “I Dreamed a Dream” for her to win over the whole crowd. At the end, she got a standing ovation and praises from the judges. Judge Piers Morgan said he reviewed the performance later and she was even better than he remembered. He also predicted she would sell a lot of records after the show was over.
Susan said that she was hoping to fulfill a wish she made to her mother, who died in 2007 at the age of 91, to do something with her life. Well, now she has plenty of fans. She already has her own fan page and can count Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher among her fans!
