Bedroom Redesign

One of the best ways to give your bedroom a simple redesign is to move the bed. That’s right, just move the bed so it’s angled to look as if it’s coming out of a corner. This arrangement makes a bedroom feel more grand as well as more spacious. It also allows plenty of room to walk around the bed, instead of making it feel crowded or too close to the wall.

To take this look a step further, place a decorative accent such as a folding screen, a large plant with up lighting, or a corner shelf with attractive accessories in the corner behind the bed. On the other hand, you might want to hang candle sconces or artwork on each of the connecting walls or apply some subtle stenciling.

If you don’t have a headboard, it’s a good idea to get one. Build one yourself if you are inclined. It is simple to do, using ideas from previous headboard articles in this column. Better yet, if you have an old one that is not in use, update it and attach it to your bed.

Add fluffy pillows with shams and lots of accent pillows to the bed. Drape a throw or folded piece or richly textured fabric across the end of the bed. Add extra rods with sheers to your window treatments as well. Adding layers will give your bedroom a cozier, more luxurious feel.

Another way to make the bedroom feel more grand is to raise the bed up. You can do this by building a frame or by simply adding blocks under each corner or the bed. Place a pretty, fabric-covered step stool with fancy trim next to the bed. Your bed will not only appear grander, you’ll also increase the amount of under-bed storage space so you can put more things away out of sight. Less clutter always makes a room look more attractive.
