Challenge for 2009

null

Yesterday at church we had some of the members of the Huskisson Scripture Union beach mission team come to join us for the day. What a great service!

The first song our music team sang, ‘People Just Like Us,’ made me think of my daughter over the other side of the world but doing exactly the same as what we were doing, worshipping Jesus. As the song says, ‘All Over the World people just like us are following Jesus, we’re worshipping Jesus.’ At about that time our daughter was giving her testimony in a service thousands of miles away.

That song got our service rocking and our music team followed it with ‘Healthy Wealthy and Wise.’ It’s not prosperity gospel but about what really matters

Then our minister welcomed everyone and especially the mission team. He prayed for them, before two members of the beach mission team came up to be interviewed. One spoke of being taken out of her comfort zone by God. We’d had exactly the same comment in a text message from our daughter regarding their mission and things she’d been asked to do earlier in the week.

After the interviews a couple from the beach mission team taught us two of the simple songs they use as they go ‘Scooping’ i.e. they go around the camp ground letting parents and children know about the mission so children will want to come and join in the fun activities. The first day they only had 3 kids. But news gets round. After a few days they had 30.

Some of the team presented part of a drama they use in the fun corner of mission program. It would be guaranteed to capture children’s interest.

Then our music team sang, ‘What the Lord Has Done’ and there was a sense of thankfulness I’m sure in all of us for what the Lord has done for us and the riches we have in Christ.

After prayers, one of which reduced me to tears along with the person praying, we had the bible reading and talk given by the beach mission team leader Ian Wooley.
Taken from Philippians 1:21-27 it was a real challenge to live our lives in 2009 and each day for Christ.

The service finished with our music team leading the congregation in ‘I Walk by Faith.’ I’d be surprised if there was anyone who didn’t come out of church, challenged, uplifted, convicted, encouraged or with a new resolve to more faithfully serve the Lord in 2009.
