Combine Your Time

One of the biggest complaints the busy couple may have is how little time they get to spend together. This can be a particular bone of contention when their hobby of choice is different. While a couple can have different interests, if they are spending their work and play time apart – when do they get to combine their time together?

A good piece of advice in this scenario is to learn something about the other’s hobbies. Does your husband like to play golf? Take some golf lessons. You may discover that you enjoy it and the two of you will be able to share golf time together.

Does your wife like to bowl? Take up some time to learn to bowl. You can both enjoy the time together in the lanes. Do you both enjoy gourmet food? Take a cooking class together. One of the great perks to this is you both get time together and you get to learn how to make great food.

Sometimes, all we lack to make our time together more enjoyable is the knowledge of what the other likes to do. For example, my husband enjoys indoor rock climbing. I’m not too good at it, but I’m going to take some lessons. If nothing else, I’ll understand what he’s talking about when he shares his stories.

He’s not a seamstress, but he likes to help me put together fabric patterns for quilts. He’ll even come up with a couple of fabrics with patterns that he likes and asks what I can do with them. Together, we’ve actually constructed quilt ideas.

Being involved and combining time doesn’t mean you have to give up what you like doing, it just means you need to invest a little creative time in each other. It may lead you to new hobbies that you will enjoy or a better understanding – either or both is a great way to combine your time and improve the quality of it as well.
