Cons of Living Together

In a previous article I discussed how many couples are now choosing to live together with one another before marriage and sometimes never marry at all. Living with your partner can tell you much more about him or her than dating. Many couples feel that living together gives them a trial run before marriage. However others feel that living together is inappropriate and is against their values and morals.

I listed some positive aspects and benefits of living together in the last article. Now that you know all of the pros that can come from moving in with your mate, you should also be aware of the negatives that may also arise.

In some cases couples move in together more quickly than they would ever consider getting married. It seems to be much less of a commitment to move in with one another than it does to get married. Therefore the couple may be making a move too early in the relationship. Once they move in together they may expect more than the relationship is ready to give. This in return could ruin the relationship.

Some couples move in together for the wrong reasons. Moving in together for the wrong reasons can also cause damage to a relationship. Some wrong reasons are: to save more money, because one partner has a nicer house, in order not to lose the mate.

Moving in with your mate can also cause a stale in your relationship. Some couples move in together and get lazy with the relationship. Just as married couples often get, couples living together stop working at the relationship. They may not ever take the next step in actually getting married. The progress of the relationship may freeze before it ever reaches marriage.

Before you move in with your partner consider all of the pros and cons that you may face. Make an educated decision.
