Crafts: Cute Denim Wallet or Purse

Do you or your kids have a couple of old pairs of jeans lying around that have seen better days? This is not uncommon. The good news is these jeans can be used for all kinds of craft projects, including making a cute denim wallet or purse.

Simple Blue Jean Wallet

Cut one back pocket off a pair of jeans, making sure you cut through the inner layer of denim too and leave a little extra fabric at the top (you want the whole pocket, not just the outer portion). Fold over the excess and hem it to create a smooth edge. Add snaps to close the pocket and you have an instant denim wallet! For a tiny purse, add handles made of excess denim or ribbon.

Another way to do this is to cut off both back pockets and stitch them together, then just add snaps and handles as directed above.

Simple Blue Jean Purse

1. Cut the legs off an old pair of jeans (adult size jeans work better for this project).

2. Find the straightest part of the leg and cut off a section about 10″ long.

3. Turn it inside out, stitch one end closed, and fold the other edge over and hem it.

4. Turn right side out. Add snaps to keep bag closed.

5. Use a small child’s belt for the handle, sewing one end to each corner at the top of the bag.

*To make a bag with sections, follow steps two, three, and four above and then sew the sections together. Proceed with step five. Your girls will also have fun embellishing their new purses with sequins, beads, trims, and fabric paint.
