Over in the PHOTOGRAPHY blog I just wrapped up a series of posts on underwater pictures. It wasn’t until a few weeks ago when I was watching my daughter frolic on one of Hawaii’s most beautiful beaches that I considered experimenting with an underwater camera. She loves the water and can almost swim on her own so it won’t be long before the only opportunity I will get to snap her at the beach will be underwater as she freestyles away from me.
The other reason I am considering taking some underwater photography classes is because I grew up in Hawaii and we travel back to the Island’s at least once a year to visit my parents, brothers, grandma and the rest of my family so I have access to some of the world’s most spectacular snorkeling spots.
If you are already an accomplished underwater photographer (PM me) you might be interested in scheduling your next shoot at one of the following hot Hawaiian dive spots:
Hanauma Bay—-It really doesn’t get much better than Hanauma. Located on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu the spot is consistently named the best snorkeling area in Hawaii by travel publications. The water is clear, warm, and calm and the marine life is unbelievably abundant. From the moment you enter the water colorful friendly fish swim up to greet you. Dozens of species of reef and inshore fish common to Hawaiian waters can be seen and photographed at Hanauma Bay. In fact, I don’t think it’s possible to take a bad picture there. I guess you could, but you would have to try very hard.
Other snorkeling sites in the “Aloha State” that repeatedly rate among the world’s best include:
Maui–Molokini Crater, Kapalua Bay and Honolua Bay, just north of Kapalua. The bay is part of a marine life conservation district, so fish are plentiful.
Big Island—-Kealakekua Bay and Kahaluu
Kauai–Kee Beach, Anini Beach, and Poipu
