Find a Free Genealogy Event to Attend

pile of paper Before you can enjoy attending a genealogy course, workshop, or event, you have to find out about where and when it will be held. Here is a quick list of genealogy events that will be happening soon, and that genealogists can attend for free. One might be located near you!

On September 17, 2012, the North Webster Public Library, which is located in North Webster, Indiana, will hold a free class called “Where Do I Begin?”. It will begin at 1:00 in the afternoon, and will be presented by Beth Smith, the director of the Local History and Genealogy Center. She will show you how to organize your research and put it into a final presentation that you can pass to future generations.

On September 17. 2012, the Bremen Public Library, which is located in Bremen, Indiana, will present a class called “Getting Started With Family History. It will begin at 6:00 in the evening and end at 8:00 in the evening. There is no charge for residents of German Township.

Registration is required. Participants can try out the free version of Legacy Family Tree. The class will discuss how to organize documents and photographs related to family history.

Ancestry.com will have two LIVE webinars next week. One will be on September 18, 2012. It is called “How Do I Know I’m Right?”, and it will begin at 1:00 in the afternoon, EDT.

The second webinar will happen on September 20, 2012. This one is called “Family Tree Maker – Tools”. It will also begin at 1:00 in the afternoon, EDT. You must RSVP if you want to attend either of these live streamed events.

On September 22, 2012, the Simsbury Free Library, which is located in Simsbury, Connecticut, will hold a genealogy workshop. It will begin at 11:00 in the morning and will end at noon. Diane LeMay, a genealogist and librarian at the Simsbury Free Library, will teach you what to look for when purchasing genealogy software. The event is free, and open to the public. Donations are encouraged. You must RSVP if you plan to attend.

On September 22, 2012, the Sherburne History Center, which is located in Becker, Minnesota, will have a genealogy program. It will begin at 10:30 in the morning and end at noon. The program will be presented by Michelle Ashe, the Sherburne County Recorder and Registrar of Titles. The program will explore the many records available at the Sherburne County Recorder’s office. This program is free to the public.
