Important Child Safety Recalls: July 21, 2008

pirate bed We expect our babies to be safe when we purchase something made especially for them. Unfortunately, poorly designed or poorly made equipment and toys can cause harm to your baby. It is important to keep up on the recalls, such as the bed that resulted in the death of a toddler. Here are the details for recent and important child safety recalls.

Baby Trends Car Seats

Car seat safety is so important. Just last week, Baby Trends announced a recall of more than 3,600 car seats due to safety concerns. The seats in question are the Rigid Latch-Loc car seats that used incorrect steel on a latch connector locking piece that makes it likely to crack. Should this piece crack, the seat may not be secure in a car accident. The car seat base could detach from the car’s latch anchors. The models being recalled are: 6400, 6439, 6448, 6481, and 6484. These car seats were manufactured (these are not sold dates) from May 14, 2007, to April 1, 2008. Contact Baby Trend at (800) 328-7363.

Bayside Furnishings Boat and Pirate Beds

More than 9,300 children’s beds that have a boat or pirate theme are being recalled after the death of a 22-month old boy. The beds were sold at the warehouse store Costco as well as other retail outlets and are called the LaJolla boat bed or the Pirates of the Carribean bed. The beds are shaped like the bow of a boat. The beds contain a toy chest that is attached at the foot of the bed. The wooden hardwood lid of the toy chest came down on the back of the little boy’s neck and strangled him. These beds were sold from January 2006 through May 2008 and cost between $700 and $1,400. Contact Bayside Furnishings tollfree at (877) 494-2536.
