Diary of a Cat Care B&B: Contagious Cautions

Not all boarding facilities are equipped to handle guests (feline or otherwise) with health issues. Because we’re owned by and attached to a veterinarian’s office, the staff at the cats-only boarding facility is trained to do some unusual things. We administer oral medications (pills and liquids), topical medications (like creams applied to the inside of the ear), injections (like insulin for diabetic kitties), and even subcutaneous fluids (for guests who are dehydrated). But sometimes, we get a guest with a serious health issue that could possibly be contagious to other guests. We work very hard to ensure that the ill … Continue reading

Looking for Embellishments

Most scrapbookers feel that no scrapbooking layout is complete without a few embellishments. Whatever those embellishments happen to be is a personal choice, and one to be made as the page is either coming together or planned for. Sometimes scrapbookers are drawn to certain types of embellishments and they appear over and over again on their layouts. This is actually quite common. We have a style and we stick to it. So where do we find something new or different for our pages? You can browse the many aisles of the scrapbook store and with some exception, there is almost … Continue reading

Things We Wish We’d Done While Waiting

In my Fast Start blog, I set out some steps to take so that you will be ready to proceed with the various stages of adoption as soon as possible. (Follow the advice of your own adoption agency, of course.) Still, some waiting is inevitable. Here are some things to do. Some of these you have heard before. Learn basic baby care, if applicable. Learn about child development and what children typically do at the age your child-to-be is currently, if you have a child identified, and at the age he/she is likely to come home. Learn about any special … Continue reading

How To Get Faux Burnt Edging For Your Scrapbook Layouts and Embellishments

Learning new techniques is one of my favorite things to do. When that new technique is something that is as versatile as creating a burnt edge look, I go a bit crazy. I have used the technique on dozens of layouts lately. I’d like to show you how to create your own faux burnt edge look. To get started you will need the piece that you plan to add the burnt edge to. I used a tag in my example, but you could use a mat or a other type of embellishment. The look will even work on photographs. You … Continue reading

How To Create Your Own Metal Tags (2)

We have been learning how to create your own coordinating metal rimmed tags to use on your layouts. At this point in the previous steps, you should have at least one empty tag and your supplies gathered together to create your new tag. Step #4 – Creating The New Look – As you removed the original paper that was inserted in the metal tag, you probably noticed that it was originally slipped in between the rims of the metal tag. This is not important anymore. At this time, you are going to adhere the paper or other item you are … Continue reading

So it is up to us to figure out how to customize these fun embellishments to work with our own scrapbook layouts. Sex Education is a Heated Topic for Romney and Obama

I for one do not follow the politicians or political news. My husband remains much more interested in campaigns and elections than I do. However, the battle over sex education between Romney and Obama has enticed me to take on a more active political role. Senator Obama has suggested that all grade school children (beginning in kindergarten) be instructed through a science-based sex education program. He suggests that each grade have an age appropriate sex education program. Romney, on the other hand, feels that there is no age appropriate program when it comes to young children learning about sex. Obama … Continue reading

You may think this is an odd topic to cover here, but it’s important to recognize the things you may say or do that could sabotage your relationship and your marriage.
