Made Improvements? Let Your Customers Know

Your customers and clients WANT to know if you have made improvements to your products, or extended your services; they want to know when your hours change or you do things to make your home business more efficient. When you make improvements to your business, make sure you let your customers know what you are up to—this can be a great marketing and promotion tool.

There is a reason why the phrase “new and improved” has become such a mainstay in marketing products—people respond to it. There’s something about progression and improvements that make people likely to purchase or try a product or service. As you make adjustments and improvements whether it is a faster computer (“Now able to respond to your requests faster!”) or upgrading your services—include that information in your marketing and communications with your customers and prospects. They really do WANT to hear about it.

Of course, if you are constantly making little changes and adjustments, these will not necessarily warrant a town crier. In fact, too much change can definitely make customers nervous. But, the occasional upgrade or addition of something new needs to be shared with your target market. Add a little tag line to your mailings or your web site, or, if you make a major change—it may be worthy of sending out a special marketing piece just to make sure people know. You might also consider a press release if you are doing something really big—a move, buying another business, adding new hours, etc. The business section of your local paper probably publishes a “business beat” where new businesses, as well as changes to existing businesses are published for free—you just need to make sure you get the information to the right editor by the deadline (include a picture of yourself if your paper publishes photos with the announcements).
