Marriages, Babies, and a Shocking Claim

I have a bit of catching up to do with pop culture events. First, the marriages – actress Zoey Deschanel and Death Cab for Cutie lead singer Ben Gibbard married last Saturday. The couple, who got engaged last year, wed in Seattle.

Waiting until this Sunday for her big day is Khloe Kardashian. Although she and NBA star Lamar Odom have only been dating for about a month, the two will be walking down the aisle this weekend. Reports are that the wedding will be held at the Los Angeles home of family friend (and music manager) Irving Azoff. If you didn’t get an invite, don’t despair – the affair is being filmed for the reality show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”

What’s the big rush for the wedding? Is there a baby on the way? According to Khloe, the couple’s rush is merely that the NBA season starts soon and they just “want to be married.”

On to baby news – Sarah Michelle Gellar and hubby Freddie Prinze Jr. welcomed daughter Charlotte Grace last Saturday. A rep for the couple says they are “over the moon.”

Son Walker was born two weeks old, but actor Taye Diggs is still excited about being a new daddy. “I just love coming home,” Diggs told US magazine. Where did Diggs and wife Idina Menzel come up with the name Walker? Diggs said he was reading Alice Walker and just liked the ring of the name.

We’ve known actress Mackenzie Phillips has had a problem with drugs for years (her most recent arrest was in 2008), but now, we may have insight into why. I heard yesterday that Mackenzie was going to drop a bombshell on Oprah’s show today. I rarely watch Oprah, but decided to record this because I suspected what the bombshell was – that Mackenzie had an incestuous relationship with her father, leader of the Mamas and Papas John Phillips. Former “One Day at a Time” co-star Valerie Bertinelli also appeared on the show to support Mackenzie. Mackenzie’s memoir, “High on Arrival,” comes out today.
