Online Romance Scams

This afternoon Wayne surprised me and came home from work early. Thank goodness I had just woken up from my nap. He’d tease me mercilessly if he found me conked out on the couch. (He thinks that’s what I do all day as it is, which I do sometimes, but not always. But he’d never believe me if he actually caught me in the act.) At any rate, he’d had CPE (Continuing Professional Education) training for half the day. Instead of going in to the office for only a few hours, he opted to skip the drive and come home … Continue reading

Adoption Tax Credit

Many people who hear how expensive adoption is do not realize what a dramatic difference the adoption tax credit makes. The tax credit for adoption is $10,000. This is not a deduction where you deduct adoption expenses from your taxable income. This is an actual credit, meaning you pay less money in taxes. For most people, that means you will be getting quite a refund! This one-time tax credit is available to those who adopt internationally as well as those who adopt US infants or US children in foster care, unlike the ongoing monthly subsidies for medical or psychological care … Continue reading

How to Keep the Idea Well Primed, Part Two

Part One was posted yesterday, in case you missed it. Yesterday, I talked about keeping an idea file in your computer. Today, I wanted to talk about some ideas particular to being a Families.com blogger. First off, Families.com asks that you write a Week-in-Review blog each week, for the previous week (from Saturday to Friday.) If you want to see a Week-in-Review from the Jobs blog, check one out here. I have found that since the set-up is the same each week (Lisa asks that all Review blogs follow the same outline, which she gives to you) I can simply … Continue reading

Show me the Money, Honey!

Otherwise known as “What You Will Make as a Families.com Blogger”… I am writing a mini-series on how to become a Families.com blogger, and what the benefits are to being one. If you missed the beginning of the series, feel free to start reading it here. If you just missed yesterday’s blog, you can find it here. Okay, so I held off discussing the money portion of this job because I figured if I told you what you would make as a blogger up front, you would say, “Great, I’ll just apply and skip the rest of this stuff!” And … Continue reading

How is your personal scripture study going? Are you just struggling to find the time to read each day or are you taking the time to truly feast on the scriptures? Once you have established a habit of personal scripture study it is important to improve the way that you study. You can learn so much from the scriptures. Personally I find that my scripture study goes in cycles. There are times that I truly feast on the words of the scriptures. Penny Pages

It’s easy to spend a lot in a scrapbook store! There are so many fun and innovative products to try out, so many cute and adorable page embellishments! But they come with a big price tag. On one of my scrapbook message boards, there was a recent challenge to create some “pages for pennies” layouts. The rules were as follows: Pages had to cost under $2.00 total. Layouts needed to be two pages. You could only use your basic tools, no advanced tools. You had to use more than one photo. No size requirements (whatever size you wanted). I found … Continue reading

Every month we get bills to pay. And every month I try to brainstorm ways to save on those bills. Electricity is expensive as we are reminded every month as that bill rolls in. But there are some ways you can help reduce your energy costs just by working on the light bulbs throughout the house. Try implementing some of these general tips and you might see a nice reduction reflected on your next electricity bill. Energy Efficient Light Bulbs Energy efficient light bulbs are just as bright as their counterparts. However, they are drastically less in cost than a … Continue reading

Will Tanning Help You Lose Weight?

For the many people who live in areas of the world that experience all four change of seasons, when the cold winter months are lurking around, many of us hibernate to the indoors and never see the sunlight. Due to this lifestyle, the vitamin D our bodies get from daily exposure to the sun is lessened and many individuals begin to suffer the effects from this loss. Even though there are warnings concerning the sun, our skin, and cancer; many doctor studies have recently discovered that the natural light from the sun is more helpful than harmful. The vitamin D … Continue reading
