Success Literature Is Good Inspiration

When you own and operate your own home – based business, you will quickly discover that you are in charge of many things. If your home – based business is a one person operation, than you are actually in charge of everything. This may be quite a departure from whatever your responsibilities were at the jobs that you had before you made the switch to working for yourself and working from home. Depending upon what jobs you had, you may have occasionally been involved in workplace activities that were designed to inspire or motivate you and your coworkers to do … Continue reading

Inexpensive books for teens

Is your teen an avid reader? Keeping a prolific reader stocked with plenty of reading material is no easy task. Many teen books are written in serial format, and it may seem like there is always just one more that your teen simply must read. In general, it takes a long time for these new books to appear in local libraries, and that means that if your teen wants to read them, someone must purchase the books. If this describes your teenager, you can get a great deal on books for teens right now, at Barnes & Noble. Check out … Continue reading

Fun Ideas for Family Reunions

In case you have not noticed already, I am very interested in food. I could talk about food all day long and not get bored. It is only natural, then, that occasionally when I sit down to write about genealogy or some other topic, I invariably end up writing about food. Today I thought of a fun idea for taking care of the menu planning aspect of a family reunion. A pot-luck is a great way to learn about your family history while enjoying delicious food. Each guest or family group can bring a dish that reflects the family’s heritage … Continue reading

Returning Fertility

Lately I’ve been doing a lot of research about returning fertility. It is such an interesting topic and you will find many different conflicting opinions on the subject, especially when it has to do with moms who are still nursing their babies or toddlers. Some will insist that a mother must wean in order to conceive again. Others, especially those who strongly promote breastfeeding, insist that weaning is unnecessary and fertility will return when the body is ready. I also came across a third point of view, which has nothing to do with breastfeeding or weaning, and more to do … Continue reading

Are Fetal Hiccups a Good Thing?

Every time my son gets the hiccups (which is at least once a day), I am reminded of when I was pregnant and his hiccups would make my whole belly move. I used to fill a tumbler half full with water and set it on my belly to watch the surface of the water move with each hiccup. It was a fun way for my husband to see what I was feeling all the time. When I noticed that the hiccups were coming once or twice a day, sometimes more, I wondered whether they were a sign of something good … Continue reading

3 Ways to Have Fun Preparing to Go Back to School

Can you believe it’s almost time? In some parts of the nation, children have already returned to the classroom and are hard at work. The rest are busy with school supply lists and last minute summer fun. Here are some ways to make it fun while preparing for back to school. Fling or Fine Fashion Show – Nobody likes trying on clothing before school starts, but many households follow this practice each year. Finding out what fits, and doesn’t fit can be fun though. While children are trying things on, making it a fun time by staging a fashion show. … Continue reading

Book Review: A Euro-American on a Korean Tour at a Thai Restaurant in China

The uniqueness of A Euro-American on a Korean Tour at a Thai Restaurant in China is that adoptive parent Chris Winston has not only encouraged her children to feel pride in their Korean heritage, but has made connections with Koreans and Korean-Americans on a scale most adoptive parents have only dimly imagined. Winston helped to begin both Friends of Korea, a regional group (in Sacramento) for adoptive families that welcomes anyone interested in Korea, and the Korean American Adoptee/Adoptive Family Network (KAAN), a national networking organization linking groups and individuals concerned with adoption from Korea. Winston and her husband had … Continue reading

Sour Milk?

It’s true that even after you’ve properly stored your milk (and sometimes even before you store it) your breast milk can go sour. It may taste and/or smell sour, metallic or simply rancid. It is not a typical problem but it does happen occasionally: too much lipase. Lipase is an enzyme that breaks down fat. Fat however, it what makes breast milk taste good. Fat actually makes lots of foods taste good for that matter, but I’m getting off topic here. Essentially the lipase is “eating up” all the fat in mom’s breast milk and the result is sour tasting … Continue reading

5 Fabulous Frugal Tips for the Kitchen

1. Get organized in the kitchen. Take an inventory of what you have, what you use most often, and where you keep it. If you haven’t already done so, create a master shopping list with items you most frequently buy. For me, I have two master shopping lists – one for the grocery store, and one for the discount chain. The reason for this, is toilet paper, paper towels, baggies, and wraps are all cheaper at the discount chain – as well as detergents, fabric softeners, cleaners and a load of other products. Don’t waste your hard-earned money picking these … Continue reading

Friday Scrapbook Funnies: Introducing The Hilarious Thena

Long before Thena Smith was a published author of adorable scrapbook related poetry, I used to chat with her occasionally on a scrapbook message board. She was always one to help another scrapbooker in need of the perfect poem for a layout. She continues to help, but has now had a book published and is still queen poetry around some of the more popular message boards. I have saved over the years, some of the funnier poetry that Thena had shared with us. I thought I’d end our week by sharing two with you. I hope that you enjoy and … Continue reading
