23andMe Has a Genetics 101 Course

Genealogy research involves more than using online websites to search for vital records and documents of your ancestors. Today, genealogy often includes a study of a person’s genetics, or DNA. How much do you know about genetics? 23andMe has a course you can take to find out. When was the last time that you thought about genetics? Maybe you are among the genealogists who purchased a home DNA kit in order to learn more about the information held in your genes about your health and heritage. Or, maybe you think back to the biology class that you took in high … Continue reading

Something is Better than Nothing

In light of the new recommendations just issued by the federal government regarding the amount of exercise Americans should be completing on a weekly basis I thought it would be interesting to note the results of a new recent study done by researchers at Louisiana State University as it might make you couch potatoes feel a bit better. Whereas the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says adults should be participating in at least 2.5 hours a week of moderate-intensity physical activity, researchers at LSU maintain that even 10 minutes of exercise a day can improve your health. Technique Tuesday: Stamping and Dyeing Ribbon

This week’s technique stems from the fact that I have often heard scrapbookers complain that they aren’t enough ribbon colors to match their papers and supplies and they wish for more ribbon colors. If you are a ribbon fiend, these techniques are just what you might be looking for. There are actually two different techniques included in today’s Technique Tuesday. Five Ways To Create Family Traditions This Holiday Season

In a recent blog I wrote about the brawl that broke out at our local Wal-Mart as hundreds of shoppers fought for the chance to shell out $600 for a new PlayStation 3 game console. Two men were sent to the hospital while others sustained minor injuries. Not exactly a great way to start off the holiday season… In many cases those expensive PlayStations will be scooped up by parents who don’t want their offspring to be disappointed come Christmas morning. It may seem trite, but the truth is families can have a far more meaningful and satisfying holiday without … Continue reading
