My Best Advice for Blogging

Content is still king: No matter how the winds blow or the tides change the most important factor in writing is content. You must put out quality content to gain and keep readers. What is quality content? Content that effects a reader. Does your content encourage, enlighten, or engage? Are you teaching something, informing, or making your readers laugh? Readers are probably not interested in your last trip to the grocery store unless you demonstrate extreme couponing or have some antidote that is worth mentioning a trip to the grocery story. A blog post is a gift to your readers. … Continue reading

How Often to Immunize Dogs and Cats

Now that both of my pets are two years old they don’t need annual immunizations anymore. However, because some veterinarians still push for yearly shots, it’s tricky to determine which your pets need and when. Although some states still require yearly rabies vaccinations (and you should check to see if that’s the case in your state), the truth is that as long as adult cats and dogs receive their rabies shots on a regular schedule, after their shot when they turn one year of age they only need the immunization, at most, once every three years. Cats and dogs need … Continue reading

Are You and Your Spouse Dreaming the Same Dream?

Are you and your spouse dreaming the same dream? Or are they completely different? For example is one of you dreaming of a house in the country while the other is dreaming of a house in the city or the suburbs. Is one of you dreaming of a house filed with kids while the other is dreaming of maybe one or two? Is one of you dreaming of furthering your career while the other is dreaming of having a stay at home wife or husband? Are you both dreaming of a happily ever after marriage? These are all topics you … Continue reading

Causes of Marriage Break Ups

Opposites attract but only up to a point. According to Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott, one of the main reasons many couples break up is that they have not enough in common. This can happen early in a marriage or even sometimes, as it seems recently in growing numbers, after the children have moved out of home. Couples find they have nothing in common. Nothing left to talk about. A solution to this might be to take up a hobby or sport together. Before I broke my arm which has out me put of action for months, Mick and I played … Continue reading

An Interview with Kim Jack Riley of Petside.com

Earlier this month I wrote about other things to take into consideration with deaf and disabled pets after someone got in touch with me on behalf of Petside.com about their deaf and disabled pets series. In the process of checking it out, I found some other useful research tools on their site (like the Pet Vet section and the Breed selector, which is sort of fun). Anyway, since this seems to be the month for interviews, I asked if anyone would care to answer some questions about Petside.com. I was referred to their Editorial Director, Kim Jack Riley, who graciously … Continue reading

Saving Money With Photographs

Several months ago I taught a basic photography class to a group of nine scrapbookers. We went over both digital photography as well as film photography and we talked about the importance of organizing your photographs for ease of scrapbooking. Surprisingly I learned that of the nine women present that night, only four regularly printed photographs. Two ladies admitted to having several rolls of film at home that have not been developed along with hundreds of digital photographs just sitting on their computer. The other three used digital and one lady admitted to having over a thousand photographs on her … Continue reading

The Pregnancy Blog Week in Review Sept 10-16

The Pregnancy Blog is a good resource for information on every stage from trying to conceive to after the baby is born. The Week in Review is a good place to get caught up on the weekly blogs all in one place. Read the descriptions and click on the link to read more on the topic. As always, I welcome any suggestions for future topics. When you are pregnant, it can be difficult to know which drugs are safe to take. For this reason, it’s best to always get your doctor’s advice before taking any medication, prescription or over the … Continue reading

The Downsides to Writing for a Company Blog, Part One

I just finished writing about the great benefits that come from blogging for a company but there are also some disadvantages that come from blogging for a company versus running a personal blog. Check out the following: *You have a set amount of blogs per month or per week or even per day that you have to write. Many company blogs say “X is the least amount of blogs you can write per month, and Y is the most.” You cannot just write when you’re “in the mood” – you have signed a contract to produce and you must produce … Continue reading

Week in Review: Fresh Starts to Who’s Happy

This week I touched on five topics: Fresh starts for your new year, finding moderation in your Christian walk, the execution of Saddam Husain, having faith in God, acknowledging Christians are not perfect and I also shared information gathered from a study regarding the happiest people in the United States. In Fresh Starts for 2007, I looked at the significance the Bible puts on the number seven. Seven seems to represent completion and makes way for fresh new starts. In Finding Moderation, I wanted to bring a point across that we can’t serve God too much, but we can get … Continue reading
