Return From Vacation

In case you missed seeing my blog over the past week, it was because I was able to take a week and visit with my mother, who was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. I was really grateful to be able to go and just spend time with my mom, and other family members. I am happy to report that mom is doing well with Chemotherapy and the Doctor’s have a positive outlook for her treatment.

The kids and I really needed this time to relax and rejuvenate and we were able to do that while spending some good quality time with each other and other family members. In addition, we were able to go to a few of the tourist sites in Southern California.

It had been two years since our last vacation (excluding camping, which I am still undecided if it qualifies as a vacation!), and it was very much needed. This past year has been extremely busy and at times stressful with the decision to homeschool my youngest son, my mom’s diagnosis and the day to day balancing act that most single parents must juggle.

I have returned relaxed and refreshed and so glad that I could spend mostly uninterrupted time with my mom. I had not realized how high I had let the stress level get, until it was significantly reduced through a little R&R. I always tell myself that we should get away at least once a year, and this past week proved to me just how beneficial that time away can be. Now I know that taking a vacation every time I feel stressed is not practical, so I am going to try to consistently put in to practice the tips that I outlined in a previous blog De-Stressing Your Life.

Meanwhile, we have the video tape and fond memories of our week in California to hold us over until the next time we vacation.
