Testimony

It is important to have a firm testimony on the basics of the gospel. The most important thing to have a testimony of is Jesus Christ and His Atonement for the sins of the world. This basic principle gives us all hope and a chance to begin again. Without it we could not return to live with our Heavenly Father.

Additionally it is important to gain a testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith and The Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith was able to restore the gospel to the earth through the direction of Jesus Christ. He was able to translate the Book of Mormon through the power of God. The Book of Mormon testifies of Christ and His divine mission. It teaches us the things that we should do to return to Him.

If you feel that you are struggling with these concepts you should pray and study the scriptures. You may want to begin attending the Gospel Principles Sunday school class. This class is designed for newer members or members that are returning to activity. It teaches the very basic gospel principles. It focuses on the truth of the gospel.

As you read the Book of Mormon and pray for a confirmation of the truth it will come. It is important to realize that you need to nourish your testimony every day. One of the best ways to do this is through daily prayer and scripture study. As you do this, your testimony will grow stronger. You also need to quit the habits that may be causing the spirit to leave you. If you are having a difficult time with this you should go and talk to your bishop. He will have sound advice to give you.

It is also important that spiritual understanding comes gradually as you learn one lesson, you will discover that a new one opens up. In this way all members of the church have the opportunity to keep learning and strengthening their testimonies.
