Wave Goodbye to Boredom

There is no rule that says a party has to be for a special occasion. You can throw your kids a great summer party “just because.” Try a pool party or a waves and water theme, and “wave” goodbye to boredom.

Start by swagging blue streamers in different shades of blue to create the look of waves. Add a blue or blue-green tablecloth to the table and surround with more wave-like swags. When setting the table, alternate with light blue and dark blue or blue and green plates and napkins when setting the table. Add a fish bowl in the center with a live goldfish and surround the bowl with green and blue glass stones.

Make miniature pools from blue Jell-O poured into clear plastic cups. Carefully cut craft sticks (Popsicle stick size) in half and attach the stick to the rim of the cup with Sticky Tack to mimic a diving board. Place a gumball on top of the gelatin to look like a beach ball.

Paint a large piece of cardboard to look like waves. Add some streamers to give it dimension. A broken down box from a large appliance will work perfectly, or you can pick up several pieces of poster board (even better if you can find blue or green). This “wall” will be used for a fishing game.

Make a fishing pole from a painted dowel rod with yarn tied to the end. At the other end of the yarn, attach an extra large paper clip to act as a hook. Have children throw the line over the wall of waves, and wait for a nibble. You will sit behind the wall and place a small prize on the line and then give it a tug.

If you have a pool, let the kids go swimming, (with careful supervision of course) and if not give them spray bottles filled with water, water balloons, or turn on the sprinkler. Your kids will have a great time and so will their friends.
