Wives, Do You Nurture His Nature?

In Our Differences Help Us Grow we talked about how alike husbands and wives often are in what they want and do not want. But there are other ways to look at these situations and one of those ways is looking at our husbands and asking ourselves, what was it about him that attracted us in the first place?

Did he make you laugh? Was he funny? Was he a man of action? Did he get things done? Was he strong and capable? Was it his looks? Was it his personality? What was it about your husband that made you stand up and take notice. I can tell you from personal experience that for me, it was my husband’s attitude. He could always make me laugh, even when I was frustrated, sad or angry – he could make me laugh.

The way he looked at the world was so positive and so refreshing. I’m a cynic and even when I thought he sounded more than a little naïve, I was still blown away by how open and interested in the world that he was. So tell me, what was it about your husband that attracted you? Do you know all the ways he is different from you? Do you place value in those differences? Do you nurture his nature?

Nurturing His Nature

When you nurture your husband’s nature, you give him the credit for the things he does well. You applaud his accomplishments – even in areas where you may not agree. Do you see where he succeeds in those areas that are different from you? Do you make it a priority to applaud him? Do you enjoy building up his ego and his strengths?

Sure, some of those differences may irritate you – but if they are a part of him, if that’s just how he is and you can’t make him change this intrinsic part of his personality, do you nurture it? You may find that giving him credit, applause and taking the time to nurture those differences may make all the difference in the world for both of you.

So – do you nurture him?
