Work-a-Holic Day

According to “Holiday Insights,” July 5 is “Work-a-Holic Day.” Perhaps as someone who runs a home-based business, you can relate very well to this.

One of the ways they define a work-a-holic is someone who is working during the 4th of July weekend, works because it is fun, because you want to (not because you need to), works on the weekends and it’s the last thing you think about before you go to sleep.

So how do you fare? Do your answers suggest that you could very well be a work-a-holic?

I have to admit, that I guess I am. I am working ON the 4th of July (but I will stop in time to enjoy festivities with family and friends). I do find work to be fun. I often work because I want to and I definitely work on the weekends.

About the only thing I can honestly say no to is that I don’t think about work before I go to sleep. I end each evening the same way. I go on my Kindle to play Words with Friends, check Facebook and then read until I am sleepy. So at least I have found a way to unwind at the end of each day.

So what is a work-a-holic to do? Because let’s face it…it can be a detriment to yourself, your health, your family and other areas.

The answer is really simple…give yourself a day off. Make it even more fun by picking a random day. In fact, you could even take it a step further and wake up one morning to say, “I think I will take today off.”

Giving yourself permission to take a day off from work might sound like a great idea but enforcing it could be difficult. But good intentions won’t get you anywhere. So let loose and let go of the work.

What about you…are you a work-a-holic? Can you be bold and take that step to give yourself a day off?
