My Thanks To-and Information About-Firefighters

Today I am sitting at my typewriter writing about jobs as most of the land surrounding my home in Southern California chars. The fires here are unbelievable, as is the strength of the wind. As we traveled home from an impromptu-but much needed (and I have to say well deserved!) weekend vacation this past weekend, we drove through waves of smoke that had traveled to the coast, carried along by winds that knocked our car around on the road as though it were literally made of tin. The post today isn’t about the fires or the wind, but about the … Continue reading

First it was the mail scam, then the Internet scam, and the phone scam; now it seems that scammers are targeting you while you’re away from home too. Traveling Into The Eye Of A Hurricane

As a television reporter I’ve been dispatched into the middle of blizzards, floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes(ironically, so I could tell viewers: “The conditions out here are treacherous, don’t risk harming yourselves by venturing out here.”) When my report was over I would run into the live truck and wonder why I was chose a profession that would require putting myself in harms’ way. I don’t look back at those experiences with particular fondness, but I rationalize that it was part of my job and I did get paid for it. Which is why I was shocked to learn that there … Continue reading

Traveling with a Medical Condition

The security checkpoint line at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport seemingly snakes on for miles. During a recent trip the line was long (as usual) and frozen. We must have stood in place for more than 10 minutes. So, it’s no surprise that many in line became agitated while others tried maneuvering their bodies to find the source of the hold up. It was later discovered that extra security had to be called in to assist with the screening of a man with an artificial limb. The incident inspired this blog which contains some helpful tips for those who may be traveling … Continue reading

General Conference – The words of Prophets & Apostles

You know this about me now. I love the gospel. I love to immerse myself in the written words teaching every principle, precept and practice of the gospel. I devour the scriptures and books that are available, counting myself blessed that I live in this day and age where so much information is readily available. Twice a year we are blessed to either attend, watch or listen to a modern day prophet and his apostles teach us from the pulpit—what an incredible privilege that is. Imagine life as it was for a follower of Christ thousands of years ago – … Continue reading
