Letting Go of the Need to Always Be Right - Blog Entry

16 Apr 2007 10:21 AM

Thanks for this blog -- I've found that when I'm willing to listen to my child's opinions and when I admit I was wrong about something, our relationship improves dramatically. I think that too often, as parents, we are a little power-hungry and want to be in control all the time, and feel that if we admit we're wrong about something, we lose some of our authority. Well, it's more important to have your child's love and trust than to maintain a dictatorship any day.

I believe it's somewhat based on the opera of the same name, but not having seen the opera, I don't know!

But I think he was a fairy prince who came to the town to teach them the things they needed to know, having been put under a spell of ugliness until he accomplished his task.

Thanks for this reminder -- I tend to be too complacent when it comes to scripture reading. I know I should be doing it, but when it comes right down to it, there are so many things I let distract me. Great blog!

It truly is a great resource for families, Primary teachers, and children. In fact, our home teacher will often include something from the Friend in his regular monthly message just for the kids. Thanks for the comment, Miriam!

It is a little disjointed -- there were definitely scenes where I felt pretty out of the loop as far as what was going on.

Homeschoolers Tend to Be Withdrawn? - Blog Entry

My kids will talk the hind legs off anyone they can get to hold still for thirty seconds! And as for myself -- I've never attended public school and yet I'm now a public speaker. Yeah, those homeschoolers just don't know how to interact with other people.

I agree -- I think seeing it as a play would be a lot more fun. "The Pajama Game" also was more fun as a play than a movie.
