The goal was just to spill out as much as I could without going back to edit, regardless if it was any good or not. I thought I'd have to go back and do a ton of editing, but what I came up with in that week was pretty good. It's fun to do this type of thing when you're doing it with other people because you are cheering each other on and you feel part of a community. Hold the Phone! You take a new parent who is trying to do the best they can and introduce the in-law element, and suddenly that new parent is insecure and feels like they can't do anything right. 99% of the time, if a parent follows their instincts, they'll be right on. Now that I'm married, I do it a day or two after Thanksgiving, but I still leave them up until New Year's. Christmas brings such a wonderful spirit into our home and I want it to last as long as possible. I will never put the decorations up around Halloween, though! That's a little too early!
