Homeschooling the Creative Child: Do You Have One?

04 Jun 2007 12:20 PM

Yes indeedy, I have a creative child -- I have four of them! This is one of the reasons why unschooling works so well -- it's easier when we're not so rigid.

Gospel Doctrine: Faith to Move Mountains

30 May 2007 04:10 PM

You know, it's very true. Sometimes we don't understand why He keeps asking us to pick up the tiny pebbles and move them, and it's not until we step back and see the mountain that's been created that we really get what He's been trying to get us to do.

Did You Get Your Flaxseed Today?

Yes, it's me, the Flaxseed Fairy!! :) I take flaxseed capsules regularly to control my carpal tunnel. It's fabulous stuff!

Primary Time: Sacrament Meeting Mayhem

30 May 2007 08:44 AM

You will make it through. There will be days when you'll wonder, but you will definitely make it through. :) Mine are almost 11, 8, almost 6, and 2 1/2, and we have some of the wildest Sacrament meeting experiences imaginable. But now that's just with our little one -- after slogging through the jungles, our oldest three now all behave really well in the meeting. Persistence (and a well-provisioned church bag) pays!

Why Do You Spend or Save?

30 May 2007 08:42 AM

This is going to sound really whacko but I get a lot of satisfaction from having a budget. I make it like a game and see how well I do. When my finances are under control, I have a lot more internal peace. Now don't get me wrong -- I do enjoy shopping -- but it's even more fun when you've planned for it and you know that the bills won't go unpaid because of what you've spent.

Just a Few Pounds. . .

30 May 2007 08:41 AM

I hear ya -- those pounds do creep on slowly, when you're not paying attention. Then when you do fully realize they're there, it's harder to get them off than it was to put them on in the first place! I've been so busy the last ten years that I haven't thought much about my weight, and now I'm wishing I'd tracked it a little more closely. It's easier to keep from gaining it in the first place than it is to lose it once it's on there.

Yep, you're outnumbered now!

Could You Check Your E-mail Once a Day?

29 May 2007 06:28 PM

I could not possibly go that long without checking my mail. My computer crashed a few months ago and I was without computer for about a week -- I was dashing in to the library, borrowing relatives' computers, and basically having a panic attack. I love my mail!

Why Is Talking About Money Taboo?

29 May 2007 11:04 AM

You're right, Miriam -- I think there's a large measure of shame and embarrasment involved. I also think that when we get into money conversations with others, we tend to feel that we're either showing off because we have money or feeling picked on because we're so poor. It's definitely a private issue for many of us, but I think if we choose carefully who we discuss our finances with, we can get the help we need to make wise decisions.

Marriage is Bad for the Community? Really?

29 May 2007 11:01 AM

I seem to recall a verse in the Bible that talks about a man leaving his mother and a woman leaving her home and cleaving unto one another. It's a natural thing to do -- when we get married, we form a new unit. I know we don't get together with family as much as we might, but they're also spending time together just as we're spending time together. Interesting blog -- I'd never thought about it, really.
