Find some books on WWII for different age groups, like Anne Frank, Number the Stars, The Hiding Place, etc. You wouldn't have the exact same experience but you could talk about WWII and the different experiences that the characters had. How they are similar and different. Mastermind - fun and logic - Blog Entry12 Sep 2007 02:36 PM I loved playing mastermind as a child. Now my son enjoys playing it when he goes to Grandpa and Grandma's house. It's a great game for logical reasoning. I love games that teach and entertain. The other day my 4 year old asked for something and my 5 year old responded, "You can't have it, it's not on the list." She was right, of course. Meatless Monday - Blog Entry12 Sep 2007 01:47 PM We love cheese quesadillas or enchiladas. For quesadillas I mix a can of cheese soup, taco seasoning, and cheese. Place a couple of spoonfuls in a tortilla and fold in half. A grill them on each side using my griddle. For the enchiladas I use corn tortillas. I spray each side with cooking spray and cook for about a minute on each side. Then I put some cheese in and roll them up. I top them with enchilada sauce or tomato sauce with taco seasoning and cumin. Bake in the oven at 350 for about 40 minutes. You can also add chicken to both of these recipes. If I do I use chicken that I boiled and deboned. Great Ways to Cut Your Food Costs (3) - Blog Entry12 Sep 2007 01:31 PM Unfortunately I already do all of these things. Yet I still feel like my grocery budget is too high. Class Size - Blog Entry11 Sep 2007 05:37 PM My daughter's kindergarten class has 24 students. My son's 3rd grade class has 29. I know the 5th and 6th grade classes have about 33. Our community is growing so fast. They just built two elementary schools in the last two years and want to build another one. Retention- Whose Decision Is It? - Blog Entry11 Sep 2007 05:35 PM I had the same problem with one of my students. His parents did not want him to repeat 6th grade. They also, prior to me, would not consider special education, even though he needed it. I finally convinced them that he was going to need more help in 7th grade or he would fail. I think they listened because they knew I really cared about their son. I went out of my way to make sure that he actually had some success. He received his first A ever in my class, because I made modifications for him. Birthdays and Cut-off Dates - Blog Entry11 Sep 2007 05:25 PM My son's birthady is 7 days before the cut off. I sent him to kindergarten. He actually started off slow, because he was younger. But by the end of the year was right on target. Now in 3rd grade he reads at a 4th grade level and gets straight A's. I'm so glad I didn't hold him back or he would be totally bored now. Research Supports Abstinence Programs - Blog Entry11 Sep 2007 05:19 PM I agree with the idea of using an abstinence program. Although like you I feel sex ed is best taught at home. |
