Mom Calls Police On Own Son - Blog Entry

07 Dec 2006 08:08 AM

It was probably one of those last straw type of things. The mother probably regrets her action now that she's added to her son's record. But that's the problem with making decisions like that without first taking time to consider all of the implications. Personally I would have just taken the Game Boy away for a month or two. If you can't wait for it until Christmas then he simply shouldn't have it for a while.

Would You Have Your Mother or Mother-in-Law at the Birth? - Blog Entry

07 Dec 2006 08:05 AM

No, I would definately not. My mother and I have a great relationship but I wanted the birth of each of our children to just be between my husband and I. Unfortunately with my second daughter I had to have a c-section and the spinal block only numbed half of my body. So they had to put me to sleep and so the only ones who say her born were the doctors and nurses. And although I like my mother-in-law we do not have a close relationship. My sister was the same way. But my sister-in-law invited both my mother and her mother to the birth of their first child. Which was more understandable since my brother was working out of state and ended up missing the birth by 30 minutes. Still I wouldn't have invited my mother-in-law. But she's close to my mom, even lived with my parents one summer.

Is Santa Coming to Your House? - Blog Entry

The presents from Santa aren't wrapped. They are just sitting out next to each child's stocking. This way there is no confusion. Our kids usually get one larger gift from Santa. Then the rest of the gifts come from us.

Charge it! Cheerful Giving or Buyer's Remorse? - Blog Entry

I have a gift budget every month that accumulates. So when birthdays, Mother's Day, Christmas, etc. come around there is already money set aside for the event. I also stick to a spending limit. It helps to start buying things early in the year. As long as you remember the things you bought.

The Roots of Christmas Traditions - Blog Entry

01 Dec 2006 11:20 AM

I'm just curious if you celebrate Christmas with pagan traditions like Santa Claus and Christmas trees? I know many of the traditions are linked to paganism. But at the same time they can also be turned to the Savior if you choose to. For example a Christmas tree is an evergreen tree which is always green representing that our Savior is always there for us. A yule log is burned and can be representative of the light of Christ in our lives. Santa Claus is a man who spends his whole life giving toys and bringing joy to children. What is more Christ-like than that? Personally I like to turn pagan symbols into Christian symbols which I then share with my children.

Does Your Current Phase in Life Affect Your Money Management Choices? - Blog Entry

I got married at the beginning of my third year of college and my husband hadn't even started yet. I only worked for one year before my son was born, and my husband had just finished school. So darn it, we missed those prime saving years. Currently we are debt free except for our house but have not saved much for retirement. That is our next goal.

A Christmas Challenge - Blog Entry

I agree. When the Playstation 3 came out people were spending $10-15,000 to buy it on E-bay. I just kept thinking why didn't they donate that money to a charity. Nobody needs a game-station that bad. We usually give toys to Toys for Tots and buy gifts for needy families that attend our church. We also donate money each month to the LDS Church, which we attend, mainly because we know the funds go directly to those in need. There are no overhead costs like many charities, because the Church uses tithing money for it's needs not money donated for charity.

Children should be dressed like children. Children grow up quickly enough without putting them in adult clothes.
