I disagree with letter grades in kindergarten. My son was the youngest kid in his kindergarten class. In January he scored below average in reading skills and received extra help. By March he was above average. Now in first grade he is at the top of his class reading 100 page books. If he had received a low grade in kindergarten it would have devastated him. It would have made him feel like he couldn't read. When all he needed was a little more time for the thinking processes to kick in.

Would You Allow A Boy - Girl Sleepover? - Blog Entry

I'm glad to see that I am not the only one who would not allow a multi-gender sleepover.

Marriage Means No More Dating Others (or Does it?) - Blog Entry

Vows should mean total fidelity. That's the example I am trying to set for my children. I agree dating while married is crazy. If that's what you want don't get married.

Can A Family Have Too Many Kids? - Blog Entry

Being a parent is the greatest blessing in my life. Originally I wanted six kids unfortunately because of health issues with myself and my husband we stopped at three. But I can't imagine growin up as an only child. My siblings are my best friends, all three of them. I also have tons of cousins on both sides of the families and enjoyed every minute of our noisy and fun family reunions.

Are You Opposites... Politically? - Blog Entry

I think if your views are really totally different politically then many of your other values are probably not in the same place as well. And having the same values and goals is essential for any marriagle.

Should You Discipline Other People's Children? - Blog Entry

07 Nov 2006 10:35 AM

My sister-in-law gets extremely upset if we say anything to her children. For example when we were doing a pinata my husband reminded her boys ages 8 and 10 to make sure they let the littler kids get some candy their were 6 children under the age of 6. My sister-in-law got mad at my husband and told him that she would tell her kids what to do. On the other hand my sister and I freely discipline eachother's kids when together. We feel like whoever was there and say the situation should handle it. If other kids are at my house they obey our rules. If they don't then they get to go home.

When You Can't Take Your Toddler ANYWHERE - Blog Entry

Cathy, it sounds like our daughters are a lot alike. I would describe my daughter the same way you did. In fact my son told a girl at school that commented how cute his sister was "Yes, she's cute, but she's a monster." I try to be consistent and firm but she still will crawl out of the cart at the store or hide in the clothes. I figure one day she'll grow up and stop. Hopefully!

Video Game Bill Passed In The Senate - Blog Entry

17 Oct 2006 07:20 AM

My son is not allowed to play any games rated above E since he is only 7. Although this rule has been hard at times for him to follow while at friend's houses he understands why the rule is in place. My big problem is that an entire game is not reviewed which means the game may be given a lower rating than it actually deserves. My hope is that if they can find a link between violence and video games that more parents will take a stand and not allow their children to play the games and in essence force the video game industry to start creating less violent games. Probably won't happen, but it's a hope.

School- Imposed Nap Tme For Kindergarteners - Blog Entry

17 Oct 2006 07:16 AM

Why are they wasting valuable school time by having children nap? I can see a quiet time for a 1/2 hour in which children engage in quiet activities like looking at books, doing puzzles, or playdough. But asking all children to nap at that age is ridiculous. My youngest won't even nap and she just turned three. I'm sure if naps were required she would be labeled a troublemaker as well, because she never sits still.
